Best skin for SB98

Post by André18 » Sun Sep 15, 2024 8:54 pm

Hi everyone!

I bought a pair of Fischer SB98 last winter. I didn't get skins by then because I figured I would use the skins from my old skis, but they don't fit well. I was wondering if I could get some advice on the best skins I could use for my skis.

I am looking for full skins (not interested by ez-skins). I am not a big skin user, I mostly use them when I'm doing big climbs in multi-day trips. Otherwise, I mostly stick to terrain that I can challenge with scales. Gliding isn't the most important factor in to me since I won't use the skins for flats.

I know that Fischer makes their own skins. Are they any good? Durable? I figure that they are most definitely the best fit on the SB98. However, I fear that they aren't necessarily good skins because it's not Fischer's specialty. If I don't go for Fischer's, I would go towards Pomoca as they have a very good reputation.

So, my question would be: does anyone have extensive experience with Fischer's skin? If so, do you enjoy them? Fit and durability are the most important factors for me.

Thank you for your help!

I’ll try and find out for sure, but the Fischer offering sure looks like pomoca climb 2.0, which is a fantastic skin for what you’re describing. Most mfgs are rebranding coltex, pomoca, contour, or kohla and not manufacturing carpet themselves.

Edit: oop I lied. They’re made by kohla, which is sensible being Austrian as well. I’ve not got an opinion or experience on them. But a climb focused mix is the right thing and kohla has a solid rep.

Ive got the fischer sbound 98s and the ez skins from them. I use them on a regular basis skiing out of my home. 6-7 mile climb about 2.5k of climbing. They work well for me.

I've used this skin on the s-bound 98s :https://www.pomoca.com/skins/023-climb-pro-s-glide
The plastic tip piece sticks out ever so slightly. Not a big deal, never had an issue with that.

This is an excellent skin. It grips and glides well. Pomoca uses a membrane that prevents water from getting through the fur to the glue side. Pomocas are probably the best skins on the market. This is not the lightest skin out there, but if you are in terrain where you are frequently using full length skins then weight is less important than performance.

Because these have an adjustable tail piece, I can use them on other skis that are within the adjustment range as long as the ski has the same dimensions or is slightly wider. I had them trimmed for s-bound 98s but also used them on wider madshush annums. You don't need full coverage for moderate angle terrain.
