Telemark Technique
For anyone who hasn’t seen this, I’d like to link to a discussion on another forum that has, what I think, is some great discussion on technique.
Give it a few pages, there really is some great stuff in there.
Hope no one objects…

It's funny watching Dostie fume at that guy. Like, wtf is wrong with posting relevant material on a public forum? I enjoy the content. Personally I find way more value in watching telehiro shred on lightweight gear than any single skier on heavy tele NTN gear

Re: Telemark Technique
I agree, that thread is a bookmark for me, good stuff. It's funny how people get so worked up on these forums. Henry Hardwire has been accused of being the banned Ron himself. Who cares? Aside from some small snark,I have learned as much from Ron's and Henry Hardwire's posts as anyone else. It is interesting that a common thread in both of their posts is while explaining technique they don't mention themselves or their own skiing at all. Very humble in a way. On the other hand some posters are much less humble in their style of "teaching". "I hiked up a volcano my first time on that binding, something mere mortals shouldn't try" Ok buddy, cracks me up.

Re: Telemark Technique
It would be slightly more interesting if…
1. It didn’t lapse into a bunch of armchair quarterbacking about how good a skier Telehiro is/isn’t. More messiah worship and crucifixion, neither of which are creative or original.
2. It didn’t take on the form of an appendage measuring contest involving people most interested in building their reputation. (When somebody critiques a guy who is demonstrably (not just jawing about it) skiing pretty well, the subtext is that they can do it better. But, oh, so ppl love to talk about other ppl. Even more than they like to talk about boots.)
3. It focused more attention on exploring the “why” of what Telehiro does, as there are some that aspects of what he does that can apply and other things that can’t be applied to the predominant American and European “demographic”. Not to put too fine a point on it but expecting an overweight, out of shape, late to skiing 60 YO to move as lightly, compactly or efficiently as a svelte Japanese ski instructor who has been doing this all his life is like trying to get a pig to fly.
Probably better for ppl to watch Telehiro’s videos on YouTube and watch for themselves… because the discussion, while having some good elements, gets tainted by all the usual elements of human interest.
Not intended to stifle discussion here… just a view having tracked this thread hoping that something novel would come of it.

Re: Telemark Technique
Telehiro is without a doubt a great skier. However after reading that thread, although it may seem like blasphemy, I believe Telehiro to be an exceptional athlete, whom developed a unique technique that he executes in amazing fashion. However, I don’t believe what I see from him would work for most skiers. I know I can’t do what he does.
The skiing on NNN-BC I most admired was not Telehiro, but rather Johnny. He briefly posted a video of himself on NNN-BC mounted Voile Objectives. It wasn’t on some blue run. He was in nice powder, but it was steep, definitely steeper than an easier black run. He was skiing through some fairly tight hardwoods. He was pointing them straight downhill, and while he was turning, he was committed to the fall line.
I’ve always disagreed with Johnny as he wrote about his disdain for cables, but not because I wasn’t impressed by his ability to ski without cables.
As for the original poster of that thread, since he is not a member here, I will comment. He is a know it all tool. I hope he doesn’t come here. Posting some interesting content does excuse a boorish quality of seeking to be the forum expert on all subjects.

Re: Telemark Technique
Is there a link to this video of Johhny skiing for those of us new to the forum?

Re: Telemark Technique
Not that I know of. I think he deleted it, as I have looked. I don’t think he was trying to say look at me.
Re: Telemark Technique
OK thanks anyways. I hear so much about Johhny but don't see the skiing. In regards to Henry hardwire, they seem to be a n instructor promoting attention to technique, not unlike the colorful personality on this forum that may or may not work for swix promoting detailed waxing tutorials
Re: Telemark Technique
Work for Swix. LOL.
Ship me a lifetime supply or Rex… or Holmokol.. or Toko (oops, they’re owned by Toko-Swixsport AG). Don’t forget all the tools too… don’t forget the roto ones and the cases. That will save me from having to buy all my stuff at MSRP like everyone else.
