My bad- I was speaking specifically of the S98 and the Epoch in terms of XC performance. I find them both very easy to turn as well. I just meant that at my weight and/or performance expectations I find them both wanting in the XC dimension. And I certainly cannot push them downhill like I can the Storetind. To me a boot like the T4 is a bit of a waste on skis like the S98/Epoch- or, rather these skis are not torsionally rigid enough to take full advantage of a Telemark boot and binding. But on moderate terrain and ideal snow both the S98 and the Epoch are great- I just find them too narrow to offer any float in deep soft snow and I find the soft round flex of the Epoch completely unstable in deep snow- the stiffer S98 is a bit better- but not as good as the S112- at least for me!
With the same waist as the S98 but with wider tips, I suspect the new Asnes RABB 68's to be even better... They look like Ultimate Turning Machines...!
Of this I have no doubt- if they are as stable as the ST- you will be able to burn a strip right off the mountain!
Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.

Oh, what you say totally makes sense... As it's the exact opposite of me, from the DH point of view... :D

For deep snow xcD, I prefer the Epoch over the S98 because of that softer flex... While I prefer the S98 for harder / uncertain snow... But hey, not having alpine style rocker tips on these 20yo models is quite retarded. They are not great at XC anyway, why not make them awesome on the downhill.. While I wouldn't use either for long distance, that range of skis is pretty much my desert island skis. Now if only they could add a sweet rocker and make the flex even rounder, like a skinnier Objective, it would be THE very finest XCD ski on the planet..

OH WAIT!! I think it's exactly what the new RABB 68 is all about!!! 8-)

It's even a few millimeters wider at the tips than the Storetind... With a bit of snap underfoot, it could be the perfect ski we are waiting for, for both turning and touring... I expect it to be around XC 50% / DH 120% on Gareth's Scale...

Can't wait for November...!

Just noticed that it looks like Asnes has gone back to the full-wrap steel edge on the tip of the 68!
ME LIKE.

The Storetind is waaaay stiffer than either the Epoch/XCD 10th Mtn, or the S-98- but, with all of that tip rocker and a bit of tail rocker + camber underfoot, the ST is both better in deep soft snow and on hardpack/ice/difficult snow than either.

I too find the Epoch/10th Mtn more of a manageable downhill ski than the S-98- the complex geometry of the ST offers it all!

I greatly look forward to you skiing the new 68!

RABB, a perfect choice for those who enjoy long and hard adventures in steep terrain. This model has a marked chamber and a versatile side cut, perfect for quick turns.
