It’s in Western Ukraine. Russia’s not taking that region any time soon. LOL.
They have enough trouble taking and holding territory in the east of the country. Only do so where proxy forces (ethnic Russians and militia) are strong. Which is in the east, not west.
Terrain in the east is more conducive to manoeuvre warfare, not that the Russians are good at that. But it is tank country, when the ground isn’t a muddy mess.
Terrain in the west is hilly, mountainous. Ideal for the defender, particularly one with good light infantry and precision artillery.
You are so right, @GrimSurfer. And the tank, as once used, is obsolete against a modernized resistance. A four-man squad armed with a Javelin missile system (I worked on this in a previous life) can eliminate an entire tank column before it even gets into range of a tank's main gun. Not slow down. Not damage. Eliminate. There's this TRUE story about some of our special forces in Iraq... It is a wicked weapon. Add an A10 or two to the mix and a tank is a five-man coffin. The Russians think everything is Kursk but the world has changed.
At any rate, I digress. Back to skiing. As long as the Russians are thinking "Kursk" western Ukraine and it's ski factories ought to be okay. I would only add:
Terrain in the west is hilly, mountainous. Ideal for the defender, particularly one with good light infantry, precision artillery, and American anti-tank weapons developed in Huntsville, Alabama.
We dreamed of riding waves of air, water, snow, and energy for centuries. When the conditions were right, the things we needed to achieve this came into being. Every idea man has ever had up to that point about time and space were changed. And it keeps on changing whenever we dream. Bio mechanical jazz, man.
I must not understand the situation in Ukraine. Is it not risky for Fischer to build an expensive new factory in a country that could potentially fall into enemy hands?
Mukachevo is on the other side of the country from the DPR/LPR. Fischer had no problems operating the factory for the preceding 8 years of civil war that followed the CIA coup. If anything, they must have profited handsomely from the collapse in Ukrainian wages after the coup. If it wasn't for the mobilization in Ukraine, they would probably still be running production there. Most likely wages are the reason Fischer decided to outsource production to a Czech factory, instead of trucking the new equipment over to Austria and expanding their own factory this year. The drive from Mukachevo to Reid im Innkreis is about half the distance of Mukachevo to Donetsk.

“The CIA coup”? Uh huh.
Here’s a thought… maybe Fischer IS the CIA? It all adds up. Vienna was the centre of espionage during WWII. Not far from Salzburg.
Allen Dulles, father of the CIA, was the OSS station chief in Vienna during the war. Maybe he was co-opted by the burgeoning ski industry, the same one helping to supply the 1st Special Service Force training in Montana?
What better way to track people than with boots and shoes? Spooks would love the irony… from tracking hoof prints to Bluetooth chips in ski equipment in a few decades.
I’m dropping dime on 4Chan and going into WITSEC…
No politics… just a bit of ski satire.

A bit surprised no one mentioned Fischer having a factory in Ukraine that burnt down in 2020 and was rebuilt just before the invasion this year. Maybe the Ruskies were on to something!
I thought that’s what people were dancing around. Big news story.
Maybe that was part of the failed Chechen push around the Antonov Airport? Kadyrov couldn’t find Prada combat boots in NNN BC so sent the boys out on a shopping trip (just don’t mix up the beard wax and board wax or comrade will have a hissy).
There was another fire at a warehouse this year too.
Business runs on pretty lean supply and demand estimates. So a few outages in successive years throws the whole system into disarray. Especially when factory “x” produces stuff for multiple brands.
Personally, I think a lot of this is because private equity firms have their fingers in a lot of pies. PE doesn’t care about anything other than juicing profit margins. So they work at the board level to take every last bit of slack out of the production cycle.
It’s not good for reliability or consistency, but certain venture capitalists don’t care about that.

To bring it back on track, have others noticed any problems in sourcing Asnes skies throughout the year? (Not just the very particular instance sited in this thread, but in general)
They’re a few bucks more than average (close to Alpina in my area though). Does this lead to them being on the shelf longer in some places? Or is the word out and demand outstrips supply 100:1?

Thanks to all who gave suggestions and input to my decision making......in the end I went with the Amundsen in the 194, it's been great, what I wanted it to be, though having skied it for a month now....yeh, as some have said, should have gone longer but Norseman only brought in two pairs, both 194. Plenty of grip for me on the uphills at 75 kg, but I'm mostly using it on the flats and rolling terrain. Tried out the skins on the first day, haven't used them since. It's a a sexy ski with a grumpy lookin' old man looking at you, I just scowl back at him.
