182cm Dynastar M-Free 108. I really love these skis. My previous dedicated powder ski was the Armada JJ at 116mm underfoot. They were quite soft, which was wonderful for first tracks. These are a bit heavy and a bit stiffer. and 108 underfoot. The weight and stiffness really comes into play as a positive as the snow gets tracked because they just don't get deflected.

My first impression was "these are a bit more work to turn" but after 7 or 8 runs on the JJ's I was cooked. On these, in similar lift served runs, I'm getting 10-12 runs in before serious fatigue sets in!

In untracked, I'd give the nod to the JJ's. It's a softer flexing ski, so just having weight in the middle creates a nice curve. Put that on edge and it just comes around. If I did a lot of tree skiing, that's what I'd be on. I had them in a 185 and a 175. In the trees, the 175 was magic - like "bat turn" magic!

I looked them up and they are almost the same weight, about 2200 grams/ski. Of course, the JJ's are 8mm wider.

M-Free 108 flex:

Tips: 7-7.5
Shovels: 8
In Front of Toe Piece: 8.5-10
Underfoot: 10
Behind the Heel Piece: 10-9
Tails: 8-7

JJ flex:

Tips: 6-7
Shovels: 7
Underfoot: 8.5
Behind the Heels: 7
Tails: 5-6


The downside of the JJ, being so soft, was that as conditions and snow density got variable, the tips would deflect very easily, so turn radii became a bit more unpredictable.

In open untracked, you can REALLY go on the M-Free and as density varies as it gets tracked out and piled up (lift served) the stiffer tips and tails don't get deflected nearly as much and as spots of tracked and packed get exposed, the edges grip way better as well due to the stiffness underfoot. I think that lack of necessity to continuously correct on the M-Free really reduces the amount of overall effort.
