I'm looking to get a coffin before the snow hits the ground. I've been lookin' for a used one but I've had little luck... I want one I can fit at least 210cm skis in. Very few are that long.
Any advice?

Try the auto wreckers. When people write off cars they rarely roll and ski boxes almost always never get damaged or claimed by there owners in a insurance settlement. I spot them laying around or still on the roofs of cars at the wreckers often and can be had for $50.00. I mount mine useing old alpine ski bindings as quick releases so I can mount and remove my box quickly. Helps with gas milage on my long work commute.

Ok guys, take this the right way, I ain't trying to give ya'll a wedgie here.
BUT!
Damn man, I was loking at those tings in the Orielys joint the other day and I was sure impressed.
Those boxes are every bit as strong and sturdy as a wet beer box. It looked to me like if you aren't careful you could tear the tops off with your bare hands. I had to open them with two hands as I was afraid the top would split if you used one hand. Torsionally they reminded me of a satin ribbon in a teen girls hair.
And the prices! Fuck, I bought a four cylinder jap takeout sportscar engine with 35,000 mi on it for less.
Guys, wouldn't it just be better to pay half as much on a vehicle big enough to get your 6 footers INSIDE it?
Just get some little old junker with a cab big enough to throw that shee inside and put $20 of gas in it and GO?
Guys, in America we got people so car crazy they will pay you to take their perfectly good beater off their hands. Put a couple hundred in it and you can sell it at the end of the season as a demo or claimer racer for a profit! When was the last time you made money off'n a flimsy fiberglass box all dressed up to look like a flimsy box of Carbon Fibre?
The locks are better on a beater, too.

Thing is brother, I drive like 500 miles a weekend sometimes to go skiing. That's fucking crazy, but we don't get much snow where I live.
I have a Subaru Forester, I can fit the skis in the back but the long ones are poking me in the arm and then we bury all our shit on top of it and you can't get them out without unloading the whole damn rig.
I had a monster 4x4 truck that could go anywhere, but I didn't want to drive it anywhere because it got like 15 mpg if you were nice to it. I used it mainly for towing and regretted buying the stupid thing.
The Forester is my DD and my adventure vehicle. It ain't that tough, but I can carry two boats, two bikes, a whole ton of other shit and get on average 25mpg, have a warranty and more ground clearance per dollar than any other vehicle with a 4 banger and a MT. I use that clearance both in winter and summer. This summer I drove into a campsite that I don't think anyone was camping at because the road was so bad - I nearly bottomed the Subie out and it's got almost as much clearance as my truck did. In the winter I'll be smashing into snow banks so I can park to ski. I don't ski at resorts so there are no 1000 car lots for me to park at.
Anywho - I know exactly what you mean about those coffins. I poked at one last winter and thought it was the junkiest thing I'd ever laid my hands on. I bought an open rack. I can fit 4 pairs of skis up there no issue. Problem is they get all rusty. I tried spraying them and coating them with stuff, they still rust. Then I have to spend hours with a stone cleaning it off. We salt everything in NY. That's why nothing that is made of steel lasts here.
And I hate to pay $500 or $600 for one of those flimsy things, but it's better than ruining all my skis. That's why I'm looking for a cheaper alternative.

Rokjox is right... They are pieces of shit. I can't believe people are spending several hundred bucks for this. But hey, if people are buying, who's wrong?
I have one of these, and I NEVER use it. Only for camping stuff in the summer, but never for skis. (You can fit 400cm skis in mine...) I keep all my skis inside the van. When it's time to ski, I don't have time to bother with a stupid ski bin...

Hahaha... no I'm not mad at you for saying that, I'm mad because it happens! And the Eons are clean now - I cleaned them before I put them away for the season

Being kinda dumb, I don't remember just where it is you are.
But funny thing, I actually do know of one of them boxes being available. I am not sure of the length, but it was setting in a habitat for Humanity Restore --- reclaimed building supply.
They got one setting in the corner. About that price. But shipping might cost more than the gizmo. Should I wander down there tomorrow and see if its still there?
