Fischer BCX GT waterproof vs OTX adventure BC
Re: Fischer BCX GT waterproof vs OTX adventure BC
Thank you all for the great opinions/feedback,
We decided to go with the BCX GTs. They feel more capable than the OTX and are definitely more pleasant to lace.
Just walking into the house, I did notice the lack of heel hold that some members have pointed out. I will be changing the laces (which seem too short in the first place) and hope to get better heel retention with the suggested surgeon's knot.
I did try a pair of Alpina Alaska at the store, and wow! The fit was just amazing for my feet, and the boot just seem to have a much better construction. We had a considerable discount on the Fischer boots hence the choice. With an illimited budget, I would have picked the Alaskas no doubt.
Cant wait to try our new set-up this weekend!

Darn it, I would have love to see a video on those slow turns on the Karhu GTs sporting the Fischer GT boots. I can relate to the effort as have attempted some baby turns on my old Karhu GTs with still old Alico leathers. Usually ended in a face plant but managed a few in optimal snow condition back in the 80s but don't think I would try it today with my creaky ankles.MartinZ wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 10:57 amI have the BXC GT. There are, as always, some good and some and bad points. On sale, the boots were a good deal. I have pretty wide, low volume feet with small heels. The front of the boot is just wide enough to be comfortable, but I find the heel hold to be an issue. I got bad blister from slippage the first time that I used them. I have thick Sole brand insoles in mine to take up the volume. I normally wear size 9US shoes and have the BCX GT in 42. They fit find in the length. There is a bit of toe pinch due to the internal plastic toe cap. Nothing causing major issues during K&G, but noticeable in a deeper telemark position. I have managed to get get better fit with selective lacing using the surgeon's knot to lock in the heel, but still have some movement. The ankle support is there, but the uppers are not super tall, nor are they stiff. I have a pair of heavy old leather double boots that offer more support.
These boots are warm, and I normally suffer with cold feet in my snowboard boots, but they do not have removable liners. The boots are waterproof.
These boots work well for picking my way through the woods and breaking trail. Although I have linked a few (slow) beginner tele turns in good conditions on my Karhu GT's, I would not use these boots to drive more downhill oriented skis.
So I gather from your review of the GT boots they are an OK boot for some mild up and downs and flats on roughed in off trail tracks and maybe a bit of trail breaking as long as the trip is not too long and no challenging downhill turns.
Check out Toms video on his wife's Vintage 1999 Karhu Odyssey Skis. Similar ski as the GTs but a bit less camber.
Really fun video to watch for us once or still Karhu GT owners.
