I’ve got Xplore on my MR48’s, I’m pleased with the way they’re working. Track skiing isn’t really my thing other than the return trip on my own. I wore my Pioneer Pros and found them to be a good combination for messing around on single track with a compacted base and a couple inches of fresh powder.

Mounting Xplore bindings on the MR 48 is very interesting. I’d love to see a picture of these mounted up. I have the MR48 mounted with Salomon Prolink NNN bindings with the adjustable plate. Had them out today in Kananaskis on both groomed and off trail conditions. The set up seemed to work well in both conditions but turning is definitely more challenging than with my Breidablikks with nnn bc bindings and stiffer boots. I need better technique:)

I was also in Kananaskis (Sandy Mcnabb) today on MR48s. In love with these skis currently, until it's time to look for turns

Very nice setup Inspiredcapers. For the last year or so I have been contemplating a pair of MR48s for use on tours involving skiing both in and out of prepared tracks. Unfortunately I bought a pair of Ouslands that I mounted with Xplore two years ago for that use, but I think I would choose MR48 with NNN combi boots if starting over now. I already have combi boots for use with my classic skis in prepared tracks, and they are decently warm and supportive, so would fit MR48 well. I could then get away with bringing only one pair of boots and two pairs of skis for a weekend trip. My boot choice is Fischer RC5 Combi, but there are many alternatives, with varying amounts of support and warmth.

Regarding bindings on MR48 wax/skin: I think only NNN, NNN-BC and possibly Xplore is relevant choices, but 75mm is of course also possible. Both NNN and NNN-BC fits the ski well and does not or protrudes very little. Xplore protrudes more and can touch the sides of tracks, while 75mm will touch the sides of a tracks and hinder glide a bit. NNN also offers movable bindings to tune grip/glide, which can be nice with skin skis.

Salomon and Fisher now offers Prolink and Turnamic bindings and boots that are compatible with regular Rottefella NNN, as Rottefella's NNN patent has expired. Many such bindings are made for integrated binding plates, and Rottefella's NIS and Fischer's IFS plates are of course not compatible :-( You can also get plates that screw onto skis for those that don't already have plates.

There are some NNN bindings that screw directly onto skis. They are often designated as roller ski bindings, but there are also regular ski bindings with screws.
Salomon: https://www.salomon.com/en-us/shop/prod ... size=27850
The opening lever is quite low and not as easy to open with gloves for all, so the kids version might be easier to operate if it is long enough for your boots: https://www.salomon.com/en-us/shop/prod ... size=27850
Rottefella: https://rottefella.com/en_GB/cross-coun ... ew-classic (The difference between this classic and the skate version is the flexor, that is interchangeable.)

PS. I like the Ousland skis and they fit decently in the prepared tracks, but I try to restrict my amount of skis. (currently at 10+ pairs, including xcd/backcountry, xc/track and telemark skis).

Completely agree that the Xplore binding will touch the sides of tracks. I pretty much avoid groomers although they can be fun/wicked fast with a bit of fresh snow on them.
