Re: Telemark Technique
I agree that HH is overbearing. He digs his own grave. It's too bad because the content, the message is good. At least it is what makes sense to me. He is not always right, for example, Explore, while not being what would be categorized as an active binding, Explore does have some activity because of the bumper.
HH, Low Angle Al and Telehiro all are proponents of a compact tele stance. That's good news for an older skier like myself and where my focus will be this upcoming season.

Re: Telemark Technique
I’m no forensics writing specialist, but that’s 100% Ron and I imagine Dostie is sure of it. As Henry seems to be on his best behavior in order to not get banned again, perhaps Dostie is just letting things slide (pun unavoidable), with some occasional rebuke (which comes across as harsh to those of us on the outside).
I have learned a lot from Ron thanks to his own tele forum and his comments on videos I’ve posted. I wasn’t aware of many of the flaws in my skiing prior to his intervention — all I knew was my technique wasn’t working (it still isn’t, but at least I now know some of the reasons why). However, the xcd guys Ron seems to have it out for (Tom M, for example) have done a lot more to inspire many of us to get into free-heel skiing than any analysis of the finer points of technique ever could. If “spreading telemark” is really the goal, I think Ron could show more appreciation for the xcd folks as a valuable entry point into tele (with bored alpine skiers being the other) and less aggressive commitment to his own views on things. He’s kind of cut himself off from the mainstream tele community online, and that’s unfortunate because he has a lot of expertise (as seen on the link this thread is about).
You can never have enough skis and boots.

Re: Telemark Technique
I agree with that assessment wholeheartedly @Bavarian Cream . Tom M and his videos and spirit are much appreciated.

Re: Telemark Technique
Yeah, a compact fore-aft stance is something to aspire to. Quicker, saves lots of energy. There are people who prefer a deep stance, and that's okay too, it just burns up more time and energy. But, if it feels good, do it. My oldest son has a deep stance and half the time plants the wrong pole. If I could catch him, I'd tell him a thing or two!

Who cares who he is? He’s offering views for free… maybe views that help people… or help ppl think about old things in new ways. Readers can individually decide the value of that on their own. They don’t need help from groups that mimic the behavior of teenaged cliques.

Re: Telemark Technique
@Manney, what's stopping you from posting more in depth analysis of the telehiro videos/technique discussed therein? I for one would appreciate it.
While your 3 points above are true to a degree, seems far less (if we focus solely on HH and CIMA) than most other threads. Of course, speaking only on a relative basis doesn't negate points made that apply to the totality.

Re: Telemark Technique
Lots of ppl “play the player”. More value in discussing ideas.
Ppl often don’t want to do that. Look at Dostie’s last post to HH on the Telehiro thread. Not objecting to anything HH is actually saying… instead suggesting that HH pull back on the level of detail.
This appears to be code for “I don’t want to acknowledge the points you’re making because it will upset the herd who doesn’t know any better and violate safe space rules on thinking. Could you please be brief so people can use the ambiguity of incomplete thoughts to feel good about their knowledge gaps?”
Notice the distinction. Not talking about HH or Dostie as ppl or skiers etc. Talking about what’s been written and grappling with the “why” of it.
Telehiro’s videos stand on their own. Just as Tom M’s do. That’s the beauty of video.
Anything that looks half good on video usually looks waay better in person. That’s when the full context can be appreciated. Knowing that, anybody doing a freeze frame analysis to drag a skier down is an a-hole. (If they’re doing it to improve the skier’s performance, they could be a coach or teacher… but the skier willingly signs up for this.)

Agreed, as far as we’re concerned. But folks were questioning Dostie’s reaction to him.

In every niche activity, especially in niche activities, snobbery abounds. Enter the Telesnob; the kind of people who make fun of cripples and mentally-challenged kids.Lhartley wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 2:01 pmIt's funny watching Dostie fume at that guy. Like, wtf is wrong with posting relevant material on a public forum? I enjoy the content. Personally I find way more value in watching telehiro shred on lightweight gear than any single skier on heavy tele NTN gear

Ship me a lifetime supply or Rex… or Holmokol.. or Toko (oops, they’re owned by Toko-Swixsport AG). Don’t forget all the tools too… don’t forget the roto ones and the cases. That will save me from having to buy all my stuff at MSRP like everyone else.
I was jk. And it really doesn't matter what a motive is for posting content on a public forum imo. Generally peeps can tell a grifter when they see one
