Re: Manney, and similar…
"Around 2012, the site has become a tumorous replica of its once vibrant self, full of meaningless, off topic threads that inevitably devolved into childish tantrums of trading insults among the hundred or so regulars who refused to leave until the plug was pulled. From outside it resembled a crippled plane coming in for a landing, bouncing a few times before its inevitable demise."
From Johnny and Dostie, here on the Telewiki forum years back. Sound familiar? Yeah, but not a premonition; the mud will eventually settle, trolls will seek fresh food sources, posers too. Hopefully. Meanwhile, those of us with the experience and passion for what we do will do what we can.

In 2012, boomers ranged in age from 50-70. Now they’re 60-80 and still have internet access. Posts here reflect the trends of a small group of cranks who are trying to redefine athleticism on the following terms:
Gaiters —> Goitres. Knee drops —> weakening knees. Plastic boots —> prosthetics. Earning turns —> using lift passes. Back country —> canoe seats and comfy e-bike saddles.
Athletics is physically demanding. Maximum effort. If yer making it too easy or arty, it stops being athletics…

"Returning to the sport after many years. Work, location (Munising), and crazy weather might allow me to get out five or six times a season (1-2 hours a sesh).
Will this be enough to build or maintain a high skill level? Would a big quiver help me develop rapidly as a skier? Maybe four or five new/used skis?"
Your first post, couple months ago. Obvious enough you know nothing about what this site is about. What is it you're trying to get across? It's understood that you have some deep seated issues with anyone older than... what, 50? That said, what is it that you think to contribute, or learn? What skis will make you ski when you don't have the experience? A good chance that it's a desperate plea for attention, even if negative. Sorry for you if that's the case. And again, this great wave of new blood you imagine infusing the site; anybody else drinking your kool aid?
This does get old indeed. Any hope at all you have the capacity to play well with others?

Returning to “the sport”… as in tele. Never stopped XC, DH. Guess I should have made that clearer… was kinda expecting ppl to ask tho. Figured the hint would be the absurd expectation being dropped… reference to GAS. LOL. Only a few caught on.
Was also expecting something other than ~”buy plastic, the ten widest skis you can find, and a lift ticket”, which appears to be the boomer strategy to achieving mediocrity.

Have you achieved mediocrity as a tele skier yet? I'm well beyond that level myself, and don't need bigger badder gear to do it.

Let’s not make it more than it is… just a turn. Anyone who has powder skied, backcountry toured, cross country skied a lot… will figure it out. Ppl who haven’t will “gear up” and regard any success as some kind of magic,

Examined my feelings… after @Musk Ox ’s poem. Talked to a boomer. Got in touch with myself… now I know what the issue is…
Deep seated dislike of HACKS who, in their declining years, TELL other people what gear they should use to ski just like them… or claim some psychological trauma bs when ppl call them out. The tone deafness of these ppl, all in their twilight years, adds up to the quintessential boomer-Karen-stereotype.
Don’t want to be judged like that? Easy. Don’t act like that.
