Voile transit & scarpa F1
Re: Voile transit & scarpa F1
@fisheater yes, you have gen 2. You could use the Hardwire heel throw, but I suspect the new Voile TTS heel throw will seat a little better. The problem with heel throws designed for 75mm boots is they lean back a little when used with F1's, so even a fraction of an inch interference with the ski/walk mode lever can put them behind the axis of rotation and fall off during a turn. I suspect that's why Voile changed their heel throw and the new one will work better for you.

Re: Voile transit & scarpa F1
Is it just perseverance and random luck to find the F1 boots?
@fisheater’s look brand new.

Re: Voile transit & scarpa F1
@Stephen i bought mine from these guys.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/275203803583?h ... R9iK1Lv9YQ
I had to message them from EBay. I really wasn’t sure whether I wanted F-1 or F-3. They messaged back that they had an F-1 Race, so I figured I could give it a try. There seems to be a used market for these boots, but buying new I assume there will be a loss if it doesn’t work out.
The F-1 Race does not have a tongue, I would compare the flex to my T-4. The caveat being the higher cuff. I imagine I could stiffen it up with a power strap as well. I seems a lot of guys use a Voile strap as a power strap. I was actually concerned the F-3 would be too stiff. My concern was keeping the ball of foot on the ski. I don’t think that will be an issue with the F-1 Race.
PS The boots are brand new (old stock), the box went thru a war!

Re: Voile transit & scarpa F1
is it possible to use a gen 1 boot with the old voile tts? what binding are people using with the gen 1 boot?
Re: Voile transit & scarpa F1
Unfortunately, there is no off the shelf telemark binding that will work with the gen 1 F1 due to interference with the heel throw. You have a few options with that boot:
- rig up an ankle strap around the heel throw to keep it from falling off (janky, but probably easiest)
- add a bolt-on duck butt and ski TTN
- design and 3D print your own massively wide heel throw (this is what I did)
- maybe find a stubby heel throw from a set of crampons?
- use AT bindings
- get rid of the boots and get something else

Re: Voile transit & scarpa F1
I had been thinking about this. I was hoping @jtb would post. I don’t know the first thing about 3D printing, but I’m pretty sure I could carve something out of hardwood that would work. Just a thought. I’m cheap, I would probably find a scrap piece of oak dunnage. However that’s me, and I would come across something like that.jtb wrote: ↑Fri May 12, 2023 5:32 pmUnfortunately, there is no off the shelf telemark binding that will work with the gen 1 F1 due to interference with the heel throw. Re: Voile transit & scarpa F1
Ask Jtb to email you his CAD file. Get the design 3D printed locally. Maybe a friend has a kid with a printer… would only charge you for the media. Or you could send the file to any number of online companies… they’d print and mail you the finished part.
Delrin plastic is a common material. Strong… abrasion resistant.. waterproof… not affected by cold. Way better than wood for this kind of thing.

Little bit of hand smoothing on your part… a sheet of sand paper or a Dremel tool. Done!
