Geez Al, there you go again, bragging and showing off. I don’t know how we put up with you?!
And that’s not Xplore OR ice, so guilty of thread drift, too!
(I sure hope it’s clear where I’m coming from, here, and apologies to @Eastern Ian …)

Was it 16 laps or 15 days… in all this confusion it’s easy to get distracted.
Post the link, Al. Get the thread back on topic…mca80 wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 7:58 pmCan you link to this? Just curious because he was initially so gung-ho.lowangle al wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 4:37 pmOh, BTW, Johnny changed his opinion on not only the Alpha Free but Xplore in general.

Guys getting so upset but if it weren't for the same people always arguing there would otherwise be only a couple posts a day on this page during shoulder season and summer, almost like the questionable accounts are just to drum up traffic in absence of it. Who would do such a thing....

Maybe people expert in this art… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clickbait
I seriously don’t know but I have recently watched the movie « Ghosted » and there was numerous mention of the expression « get a room » to the 2 main characters… I think that would be a good suggestion for some people to move their discussion to… I am not saying they should do that… I am just suggesting for the benefit of the Forum. Peace

Good idea. Could embed pay per click ads for glucosamine, adult diapers, blue pills, rogaine, reverse mortgages. That will generate at least a nickel a day in revenue.
There are marketing issues at play, can’t deny it. Who’s going to advertize on a site stuck in an old man rut? How about one with five views or posts a day… where the discussions are all stroke and no poke. Is this the future that Swix.. Rossignol.. Fischer.. Rottefella.. Voile… want to bet on?
Fresh blood… who some would call disruptors… is good for business and discussion. Keeps the swamp from festering. Puts ppl on their best game… not saying stupid things that everyone knows is bs. A little tough on those with fragile egos or low on anti depressants. Usually not many of those in a group… just the whiners who are triggered when the wind changes. They’ll get triggered anyway… might as well call them on saying stupid things. At least that’s productive.
The alternative is same old, same old. Ppl in their 60s, 70s are one accident or health issue away from giving up the sport. Lucky ones may go much further, but the numbers shrink by the year. Gotta drive the average age of participants down into the 30s, 40s… 50s at the outside. Not going to do that on boomer terms… control freaks, hoarders. Not all of them… just the Karens… the ones who play spam cop from an easy chair.

Re: Xplore on Ice?
Could you give some examples of the "old man rut." We're still out there skiing and buying new gear I just don't see why someones opinions that are based on experience are less valuable than yours, that are based on theory or concepts. I don't think there is a need to reinvent the wheel here. You are the one spewing bs that is obvious to anyone with actual experience. Being a "disrupter" is just that, disrupting, and no good comes out of it.Manney wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 6:24 pmGood idea. My opinions have no value. Not worth a nickel. Don’t tell what ppl should do… don’t tell them what gear they need to use… don’t brag about my awesomeness… Don’t call for ppl who disagree with me to be banned… or leave. Don’t whine about being triggered by what somebody posted….
Posting links, other views helpful. Gives ppl things to consider. They can follow, not follow. Their choice.
Old man rut starts in the brain and ends at the ankles… doesn’t affect credit card use tho. One day T2s are the only boot to use… next day T4s are the only choice.
Another sign of old man rut is when somebody is convinced theirs is the only way. The more they forget that energy and improvisation count in skiing… because the energy of youth has faded, taking any desire of improv and risk with it. They equate gear with ability… because they can’t do the things they used to do on light gear any more. Too much beer, too many bar stools, too little off season conditioning, too brittle to risk it.
Worse if they get injured later in life. Break a leg, bust a fib. The thought of injury fades quick in younger ppl. It does the opposite in some older ppl… they become more gear obsessed/risk adverse. Risk avoidance strategies by buying more and more shit… because serious rehab and off season conditioning is harder than sittin in an effin boat and downing beers, which is what got them onto the injury list in the first place.
Not all skiers turn into old man skiers. Some remain open to ideas, even if their use is impractical for their age. Some keep up fitness, maintain flexibility. May not be able to charge as hard… but have the stamina to avoid fading out. Apply max effort, even if that effort is 1/3 that of a 20 year old. They’re the awesome ones… inspire by doing their thing. Not tellin everyone about it 24/7.
Still waiting for you to post a link showing Johnny changed his mind on light boots. Or did you forget about posting that? (Memory loss is a sign of something…)

Manny, when you say that I think my way is the only way, do you mean when I'm skiing plastic boots and alpine skis or is it when I'm using leather boots and light skis? Or maybe it's when I'm skiing leather boots and alpine skis. It could also be when I'm skiing plastic boots with light skis. It would certainly clear things up to know which one you are talking about.
As far as Johnny goes, I haven't seen anything about him changing his mind about light boots, just Xplore.
