Surprised you can’t relate to being lectured on same issue… posted this not too long ago:
https://www.telemarktalk.com/viewtopic. ... +kg#p32088
Over 2 lbs per foot adds up on a big climb… pita on an off camber traverse too. Unless riding the lifts or magic carpet… LOL… extra weight takes away from the experience. Limits the climb… limits the descent… limits the turn.
I can agree to disagree with Al on some things, but I don't need to convince him he is wrong, because we come from different perspectives, usage scenarios, experience and expectations, and I can see why he prefers plastic gear. There is no right or wrong here, there are just different perspectives. So I agree that YMMV is ALWAYS important.
As you spent your time digging out that thread, my attempts with the T4 are more recent than that. The T4 were lighter and better touring boots than the Garmont Genesis. The Rotefella ST were much lighter than the G3 ascent bindings. FWIW the Alico boots I referred to in that post fell apart in the first tour (or maybe the second, I don't remember exactly). I would have kept the T4 were it not for the pain they caused in my feet after repeated use. Again this depends on different users foot shape and whatever.
I think there are more constructive ways of contributing to a forum than to shoot down other responses due to the posters being of a different age or whatever. We can all contribute by our own knowledge and experience. No one can contribute anything meaningful based on what they don't know.
Your second post to this thread is where you started attacking other users responses by calling them out as off topic. Look at it again:

OP talking hard, icy
sections…. Where setting an edge is harder. Your video is shot in totally different conditions…. 60” heavy, semi consolidated base. That snow looks sticky… warm… sticking to the baskets… rolling into balls… slowing you down to the point of imbalance.
Lots of other things to talk about other than boot… if the issue is edge control on ice for something like slalom skiing. Ski stiffness, risers/speed plates, edge angles. That can be more about achieving an “ice ski” setup… mostly in competitive environments.
Different discussion than started by the OP. Mostly vanity bs and winning the gear whore war unless talking about competition.
If the goal is handling icy sections, boot with good ankle support and tuned edges is all that’s really needed. The rest is up to the skier.
then again, calling out other posters for supposedly being OT:

Three key words… icy (not ice)… section (not entire tour)… trail (not GS slope). Qualified by “if”… implies a possibility, not certainty.
Emphazing for ppl who don’t get the nuances of the OP.
Tom has been one of the earliest adopters of Xplore on this forum, so his experience is probably useful. You imply in your first post in this thread that Xplore would be good - have you used Xplore?
Interestingly the other contributors tried pretty hard not to be triggered until yesterday.
I hope you have a peaceful day.
