I don’t post here a lot, and instead do some pretty serious lurking here, on backcountry talk, and even the telemark skier magazine forum.

The act of other posters usurping an OPs string immediately is pretty pervasive on all, though I will agree with another posters comment that this place and the other telemark forums are remarkably nice compared to the rest of the Internet.

The posters on these forums all have the same affliction: they suffer from the lonely reality that is being a telemark skier. They want to say what they want to because they rarely get to. There are precious few opportunities to talk about telemark skiing in the real world.

Regardless, while these places can be great conduits for information, they do a lousy job substituting for a subculture. Some of the threads are so threadbare in content that they must just be people reaching out for some sort of telemark connection, no matter how tenuous. Let’s not forget those things should happen face-to-face more than they probably do

Interesting and thoughtful perspective, Yonderville.

Lots of ppl writing about themselves… seeking some sort of satisfaction, acceptance, whatever. When they can’t find it… form little invisible empires with others sharing the same self esteem issues. Gets in the way of adult discussion on all sorts of skiing related issues… filled by crackpot ideas that entertain those who should know better. Lots of butthurt when bs is called… bs can’t rationally be defended.

So yeah… you’re right. There’s more subculture happening here than info exchange.

I agree with others this forum has been a pleasant place overall. There have been a couple of notable incursions of unpleasantness, but especially considering it is an unmoderated forum, it stacks up well compared to other forums.

It could be so much more… little/no younger skier voices… no post-ski-skiers (we will all get old, scale back or stop skiing at some point).

More discussion on technique, health, fitness, injury prevention, injury recovery, safety, forecasting, search and rescue, avalanche. Ppl posting posting likes-dislikes with their gear… not slavishly defending their setup to protect superegos.

It sounds to me like you need to start your own ski discussion forum instead of forcing your pov onto an already existing one. Or are you here to save us from ourselves?

I think Josh Madsen should have been more accountable there. But he and Craig Dostie have such a narrow focus, and frankly I don’t know if their heart was in the game to begin with.
Josh is a busy guy, and he has his life to live.
