Thank you.

We had a powder day here yesterday at my local hill. I thoroughly enjoy the chit-chat and temporary camaraderie with fellow early morning powder enthusiasts when riding the chairlift up: talking about the snow, talking about skis, climate, etc. (poor season in the great lakes)

Well I’m glad you had a powder day! I’m hoping the latest forecast for tomorrow becomes reality, I could really enjoy a Powder Saturday!
Glad @wabene is enjoying his new skis!

Peace gentlemen, we’re grown men and we still slide on snow like kids. Life is good!

Think we got about 18" in the past 7 days, but today was sunny and warm and next 3 days high of around 40 before another 4" predicted. Makes for strange skiing. I tried Start Oslo Violet for the first time today about noon, just on some hiking trails that had previously been beaten down by snowshoers but no one since the most recent snow. It was going great for a while then hit a more sunny and open area and the snow was immediately and perceptively different from what I had been on. Icing up bad in the kick zone. A function of the sun making it melty? I would think that would have been better for a grip wax that is 1/3 klister and 2/3 hard wax. In any case it was brutal, basically walking another 1/4 mile to check out this lake then once I got back into the area which was good, it was still good. Takes a lot of experimentation to learn waxing from 29F and up. Not like last year when it was green, or blue extra, every single day in Jan, Feb and part of Mar.

I went and sat on chairlifts today at the local hill and tried out a pair of new to me skis. There was a few flakes at the bottom but up top it was dumping and dense fog. I know that’s business as usual in real mountains but here, I'm talking about 600 ft
of vertical drop. Very unusual for this point in the season.

Pretty wild, don't think I have seen that around here. Seen it plenty but with only fog in the mountains of Arkansas, which aren't very big mountains either.

Think we got 7 inches by me since last night. Job is keeping me inside today and daytime tomorrow but should be able to break some trail tomorrow morning. Think there's been like 30 inches the past 2 weeks.

Originally I was a little skeptical of my hastily chosen snow dance gif, but it must've worked!

My best guess is we got 17" (43cm) of the fluffy stuff in this last storm! Will I start complaining about too much snow?
The record for snowfall in Duluth is 135 inches. Last year we got 125. The information is not yet available, but we have to be around 120 now with more on the way later this week. Back to back epic snow seasons, yay!
I was starting to fret a few weeks ago because we weren't getting snow. After some research apparently February is historically a dryer winter month and March is the big provider. There is a caveat here as two years ago we got saddled with too much warmth in March and it shut the whole thing down.
It is becoming apparent that to fully enjoy these gifts maybe next year this old guy could get in better shape  Time to suck it up and head to Spirit Mountain they are closed Mondays and today is the day.
Anyway thanks to those two anonymous young ladies and their weird little TikTok video!

Around my area of lake Superior, March is the highest average precipitation month of the year. Some seasons it's snow but other seasons it's rain/snow mix, while one season several years ago saw mid-March temp into the upper 70s for a few days. It was weird going to the beach in March.
The snowpack around here this season is very dense and contains a high moisture content: something like 6 to 8 inches of water in 28 inches of snowpack. Some of us are getting nervous about the strong possibility of rapid melt this spring and the erosion that it causes.
A few more inches of fluff overnight makes me want to get out skiing today but instead I may just surrender to the idea of resting my aging, worn out legs.

I remember complaining about too much snow around here one season not long ago. The snowpack up in the hills that catch a lot of lake effect had over 6 feet of base. It got challenging digging out gates and cabins and my little yamaha bravo couldn't get up onto the snow without making a giant ramp

Further inland and not terribly mountainous so March usually doesn't give us as much as near you, but got 8" yesterday and 16" forecast for end of week. Pretty crazy, the dog can definitely doesn't come with me in the woods right now where it's 2 to 3 feet deep in most spots.
