Was not that thread about a dirt cheap deal for FT X

This has to be the thread that wandered the most from the OP
The OP posted a heads up on a special offer by a sports chain in Norway where he lives. It states quite clearly on the traders website that they do not ship abroad ("vi leverer kun i Norge"), therefore the thread is of relevance only to those who are resident in Norway or who visit the country regularly, as some of us do. When the article in question is sold out, as it probably will be fairly quickly, then the thread becomes irrelevant even for the few Norwegian residents/visitors who have read it. What direction would you expect such a thread to take or, more to the point, what do YOU personally have to contribute to the development of the thread?

This is a chat-room, for Pete's sake. A theme which is introduced will stimulate reactions from those who read it and, as is often the case with interactions among people, new ideas will be introduced which will depart tangentially to the original theme. It's unavoidable - and if the forum administrator were to set himself the task of weeding out all off-topic postings, then he wouldn't get an awful lot of skiing in, either this season or even next season, for that matter.

Some people here have so much time in their hand... it's amazing ;)
.....and it would appear that some people have enough time on their hands to read what these "some people" have written. If it boosts your own sense of self-importance to make snide remarks about people having time on their hands, then perhaps you should have a look in the Trip Reports sub-section where you will find lots of offenders who have wasted the precious time that they have on their hands to write content for the rest of us to consume. What a bunch of time wasters! Have they nothing else better to do with their time?

Hey I think you might have slightly misunderstood the tone of @Nitram Tocrut's response a little bit here! I don't think he intended anything pointed, just commenting on the inevitable way topics drift! :)

@Jurassien read @Musk Ox post… It says it all :D I thought I made significant use of the emojis to tell that I was not serious. I am sorry that it made you angry for a few minutes. Clearly was not my intention.

On my way for 2 days of the Canadian Ski Marathon where I hope to meet @spopepro

Oups… I contributed to the thread drift… sorry ;)

Peace

Just as a quick note on topic, these kind of offers are actually super common from places like XXL and BraaSport, and 4000 NOK (ca. 390 USD) for skis + bindings is even on the less remarkable side! You have to scan the price comparison sites daily...
Muskox, i would agree but the falketind skis are more expensive than the rest of the range. The falketind's cheapest historical retail price according to prisjakt is 3700 something, without binding. As the cheapest xplore binding is around 1690 nok, this is a very good deal.
Yes you can get other fjellski with binding for 3000 to 4000 regularly.

You're right. Sorry all for polluting the forum, i thought, erroneously no doubt, that this may have been of interest to some.
Have a nice Saturday.

No first-hand insights from me, I'm afraid, but you have probably read the current ski appraisals by Pål-Trygve Gamme in utemagasiset where the only minus-point mentioned was that the ski is a bit nervous on hard surfaces (Litt nervøse på hardt underlag). Whether by "hard surfaces" he means actual boilerplate is not quite clear (unlikely, as we're not yet in boilerplate season). Otherwise he rates it 7 out of 10 and mentions its versatility and turn-friendliness and that it is good in soft snow.

I skied 1rst generation FT on full bore boiler plate. That ski was soft, the tips and tails flopped around in challenging conditions. However the edges were solid underfoot. Solid underfoot wasn’t enough to translate to control with tips and tails being beaten around. So gen 1 was soft, but it had a torsionally solid core.
I really have not had the FT X on boiler plate, it handles mild mank much better than gen 1. It is much more longitudinally stiff than gen 1. It will be much better on boiler plate than gen 1.
Since how to relate boilerplate proficiency is relevant, and I don’t really know what your goals are, could I suggest some basic comparisons to skimo skis. The “magic” of the FT X is excellent kick and glide on a ski that downhill skis well. I think skimo skis are designed to be as light as possible, but survivable on icy downhills at speed. So the skimo ski should be shorter and stiffer, with a different shape. I would compare core material, weight, and shape. There has to be a correlation, and the skimo ski should be better on boilerplate. If I was skiing boilerplate I would want a plastic boot and an alpine type ski, maybe even some metal in the ski.

Not meant to be a smart ass answer Musher. I didn’t answer the first time I saw this because I didn’t answer. I really have not skied my FT X past it’s limits. Shoot I can look bad on my Tindan and T-4’s, I don’t need to look even worse on my FT X and leathers. At my age I think I’m past putting myself intentionally knowing I will be flailing to try and get better. I’m better at working on technique in conditions where I don’t flail. I still end up being challenged plenty.
