After my first experience doing tele turns for more than 50ft of vertical I was reminded of two quotes:

'I would only believe in a god who could dance.' - Nietzsche

'It is better to go skiing and think of God, than go to church and think of sport.' - Nansen

Successfully linking turns is basically like dancing with Nature in my estimation. Made me think that I would only believe in a god who telemarks down.

Good idea to try a philosophy thread. We had a physics thread but it got stuck on “what does a cable binding do?” and that was that.

I will say, the neoplatonists were absolutely full of it. Fortunately people have gotten more in touch with reality over the last 1800 years.

I had lunch today at the Due Spade cafe (Two Swords). During ww1 Ernest Hemingway lived in the apartment upstairs when he was driving ambualnces for the Red Cross. He was an avid backcountry skier both at Cortina here in Italy and at Shruns in Austria. Shruns and the Montafon valley is highly underrated as it is over shadowed by nearby St. Anton and Lech (also amazing skiing).

He was pretty good with words as well:

“Finally towards spring there was the great glacier run, smooth and straight, forever straight if our legs could hold it, our ankles locked, we running so low, leaning into the speed, dropping forever and forever in the silent hiss of the crisp powder,” he wrote in A Moveable Feast (in Shruns). “It was better than any flying or anything else, and we built the ability to do it and to have it worth the long climbs carrying the heavy rucksacks through the powder snow.”
