The Tetons got pummeled with up to 4 feet of good stuff in the last week. Skied up a beautiful creek in the Snake River Range yesterday in -13 degree temps! Deep trenches.

Nice! I've never been over to see that sculpture contest, nor the ice palace in Dillon, thanks!

Re: Theme’s 3 photos on Jan 21 (page 144): Those trees look like what happens in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. There is a scientific term used to describe the odd way and reason snow forms like that on those trees and it only occurs in a few places on earth.
I use to recall the term and attempted to find it but failed. Does anyone know the term for that? -And where else it happens…

Re: Pictures, pictures and pictures!
I think it's mostly just high moisture snow adhering in those pictures, but the ice crystal portion is probably "rime ice". If it is rime ice, it's pretty common. The GCW wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 12:35 pmRe: Theme’s 3 photos on Jan 21 (page 144): Those trees look like what happens in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Hoar frost is another common type of ice but there is a type of icing called "hair ice" that is pretty rare.
