Alico Arctic 75mm Boots?

Howdy - I am on the hunt for a 75mm boot. Have excursions and would like to move to more comfortable / free boot. Tried on the Alaska's, but pinch my smaller right foot pretty good in size 46. Have emailed Telemark Pyrenees about these Alico Arctic Boots:

Feedback is stiffer than alaskas and about 5mm less lenght of the insole for size 46. Thinking they could be a good fit and hoping somebody has feedback. I noticed the arctics have a cut out at the mid like th alaskas, so maybe a good flex area.

That's a nice looking boot. Man the welted boots are fading into obscurity. If even Alico is moving away I fear the end is nigh. Gotta grab a Crispi Bre before it's too late.

Since Telemark Pyrenees says they are similar to the Alico Ski March boot. You might find this thread interesting.

Personally I find it hard to believe this boot is comparable to the Ski March boot, however it would be interesting to know. I thought it was similar to the boot offered by Altai Skis this year. However, the boot offered by Altai do not have the waterproof liner, it had “pebble finished” leather, and no instep strap. The Altai boot was closer to $200. I would think they are a similar boot, Pierre from Altai indicated he ordered the boot he sells from some available options. Pierre also indicated it skied similar to the Alaska 75 that he also sells. I would think Both boots would be similar, the Altai and the Telemark Pyrenees. Possibly when Telemark Pyrenees claims it is similar to the Ski March, could it not mean waterproof, and well insulated. It doesn’t necessarily need to mean heavy and stiff. Not that heavy and stiff are a bad thing. However I ski my light Alaska 75 much more than my stiffer Alico Ski March. However I personally am interested in this Alico offering, if my Alaska 75 were to fail.
I’m really hoping the original poster goes for it! I’ve been the first guy in, and it worked out for me.

For those curious, this is the info telemark pyrenees gave me over a couple emails:

Arctic with strap is much stiffer than Alaska.
It is a thick leather model, insulates well, soften over time.
Green version is reversed leather with no strap.
Actic is narrower in toe and ankle than Alaska.
The Double is a little stiffer than the arctic.

For size 46:
Weighs 1.21 Kg each (vs 1.5 Kg for Double and 1 kg for Alaska [but could be wrong on this one])
Insole measures 300mm (vs 305 for alaska)

Price is competitive at $220 delivered to USA.

One other notable feature is the mid ankle cut out like the alaska, hoping it promotes bend at that location.

Buying a new boot? Do yourself a double favor buy an Alfa boot and the Xplore binding. If you are mostly (up and) downhill oriented then the Alfa Free

The Alico website just mentions the Ski March to say that the Artic is taller. No other mention in comparison that I saw.

I emailed TP about this boot as well. I asked whether the sole flex is as stiff as the Ski March, and they say it is. However, the version of Ski March boot that they sell seems to have a glued sole, and I don't know whether those are as stiff as the older Ski Marches with a welted sole.

They said the weight is 1.07 kg per boot in size 42.
Aventure Nordique lists the Alaska 75 at 2120 grams for a pair in size 42, so if those numbers are correct they are basically the same weight.

I emailed Pierre at Altai about the boot he was selling.
Below is his response to my questions about the Alico boot he he selling. If this helps, I believe the Alico boots are similar, I think I prefer the Telemark Pyrenees version. Pierre is comparing his Alico to an Alpina Alaska which he also sells:


The Alico is about 1 inch shorter in height. Sole stiffness is pretty similar. Leather is full grain upper. The sole is Vibram (like the Alaska)but a little different. It is a bot thicker in the duckbill - a good thing - and the duckbill does not stick out as far. I sell the Alaska too and like it but I think they upscale the soles to fit the well insulated AK - Hence the stop at 47 when all other boots can go to 48. This ends up having the duckbill stick out a bit father forward then the normal 75mm boot. We have only seen a few crack, mine being one of them, and I rarely telemark turn in them.

I would say the Alaska is a bit cushier then the Alico but skis about the same as far as stiffness and control(thicker sole helps on this)AK is also a bit warmer but not by much. The ALico runs 1/2 size larger then the AK and has a roomier toe box.
