I think we should be a bit less sensitive... I read most of that thread with lots of interest. And I do not see that much insult, I mean «mean» ones (unlike the time when MikeK and the other guy... Ron were active as members).

My high school physic has somehow faded, but I am still interested.

Happy new years guys.

You have a point, Rod.
I have already wondered, what ever happened to Mike K?

I try to be gentle with my insults. It's been quite a while since I've called someone a mother friggin cod sucker.

Back on topic. The only law of physics I need to know for skiing is "what goes up, must come down"

this may be the most insane thread I have seen in this forum. its almost as bad as a bunch of wool and canvas wearing pinhead backcountry dudes debating the coefficient of friction created by basket size on skimo race poles. or the merits of spandex vs lycra in wind tunnel tests. or the Norwegians once changing their uniform colors once because "blue is the fastest color" . there. I think I just offended everyone including myself .

More like “does basket on ski poles really increase surface, or are they for arm control only”?

Yes I invented the term arm control.

I laughed though!

Here is a physical mystery that needs some explaining. How come when I lengthen my adjustable ski poles they feel heavier when held horizontally?

Seems like a dodge to me…
Let me flesh that out…
I have the sense that often, when something has been put to you directly on the forum, you tend to dodge directly answering the question.
This makes it difficult to make progress in a discussion, which is evidenced by two of the longest posts in recent TTalk history.
I have gotten the same feeling. Takes the fun out of the debate, an argument should meet either a counter-argument, or acceptance.
"They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”
