Nice lines, mon ami. Great to see you enjoying the conditions.
Things started to go off here (Ottawa, ~600 km west) yesterday. The next few days will be a write-off, so get out again before the warmer air reaches you tomorrow!
Thank you GrimSurfer. We had more snow today so yes I did go back and enjoy that same spot at the end of my street today. Hopefully we don’t get too much rain in next days or I’ll have to consider driving further north to enjoy the good conditions.
We had a big storm front pass through this week and dropped rain at the lower elevations turning our beautiful snow to a crusty mess, so today we went up in elevation. I brought out the big guns (Hyper V6 and T2's) expecting tricky snow, but instead found a very consolidated 36 inch base with about 5 inches of fresh snow on top. Most amazing snow conditions. It was my first time skiing plastic this season. It really felt strange at first, but the muscle memory kicked in pretty quick. Days like this are priceless.

It’s always nice when the trail delivers a pleasant surprise.
We dreamed of riding waves of air, water, snow, and energy for centuries. When the conditions were right, the things we needed to achieve this came into being. Every idea man has ever had up to that point about time and space were changed. And it keeps on changing whenever we dream. Bio mechanical jazz, man.
I only had 40 minutes door to door to try today, maybe but not surely, more next week. So i dont have enough data yet for a strong opinion on the binding interface. This will take a while. But it is very easy to get the skis on and off.
The Alfa Free boots are very stiff when tightened. So stiff that XC striding is severely compromised when everything is tight. In this sense the Boa is a perfect complement. Very easy to open the upper cuff and gain some freedom of movement and tighten it again as required.
@Roelant we’ve had this view from you in the past, correct? I still wish that was the view from my local trail! I noticed that binding before I read the text of your post. Yes! I look forward to your thoughts.
@Roelant
Wicked!
Looking forward to your reports on that setup!!
Did you get the stiffer downhill flexor to try with it?
Best wishes to you and yours- Happy New Year!

Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.
@fisheater I ski here a lot because I love it here, this picture is 15 min skiing up from a parking lot, which is a bit over 5 min driving from my home. It is mostly narrow sections between dense tree growth but i like the wilderness feeling. To me open space ia freedom, so i don't like crowded places usually.
I also get a special feeling when skiing with a view on the sea. @lilcliffy yes i got the hard flexors but forgot them at home in my rush today. Anyways it wasn't a real test, more of a baptism, and i didn't have the space to do tele turns between the trees on this run.
In any case the Alfa Free offers bucket loads of ankle support. If the torsional rigidity is OK it will be a winner. I did notice that it wasn't very insulated and I'll need an extra pair of socks next time.
skinning in the Beartooth this morning. lifts don't run until 9am so 7-9am is primetime. start in the dark. finish after sunrise . btw, the sunglasses are an awesome value. $29 on Amazon and they are photochromatic. I only use them in the dark/sunrise. for bright days I prefer glasses from the usual brands... elevation where I'm standing is 9500.
