Perhaps the only virtue I have.
We dreamed of riding waves of air, water, snow, and energy for centuries. When the conditions were right, the things we needed to achieve this came into being. Every idea man has ever had up to that point about time and space were changed. And it keeps on changing whenever we dream. Bio mechanical jazz, man.

No problem...エイダン.シダル wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 8:28 pmIt wasn't you I'm annoyed at: it's the other guy with the, at best, social-darwinism crap; at worst, straight-up facism. Kind of remind me of faschism...エイダン.シダル wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 4:27 pmAny moderators on here to keep things about skiing? Or at least to edit out those I don't trust around my mixed-race family, Jewish best friend, or same-gender marriage acquaintances? I've added him to my 'foes list' to see less of his hate speech: shows up in quotations, though.
Besides hate, it's just rude. I'm a labour-socialist, and who cares? This is a skiing forum.
Happy skiing, to all those whose hearts aren't consumed by hate.

Re: Sharing a little dirty secret about OAC
It seems in this country (US) money talks. One way you can vote is with your feet (or wallet). I do make decisions about what to buy or where to shop based on the particular company's practices. The are certain places I have never shopped and will go out of my way to avoid. Another factor is where is the money going, can I keep it local?
Take the Fein Multimaster for an example. A game changing invention. A super quality tool. It was very expensive when it came out, $400, which for me at that time seemed like a lot. I waited for the patent to run out and the price dropped to $250 and many knock offs from good companies like Bosch and Dremel became available. I bought the Fein. I figured they invented it and deserved my business. It was the right choice and now 14 years later it is still the best out there. Same with my game changing tile saw from DeWalt. I believe the innovator deserves the spoils. Anybody can copy another's idea and it can sometimes be a slimy situation.

Before feeling sorry for anyone, check country of manufacture. Margins can get pretty fat when you’re knocking out product in China.
PS. I have a Fein too. Superb tool. Worth the money.

Re: Sharing a little dirty secret about OAC
Altai and OAC seem to be making products for different environments.
OAC seems to be making skis mostly for Finland, with a foam based core, and much of their line optimized for largely flat terrain. Their skishoes seem to be marketed as more convenient replacements for Finnish forest skis.
Altai makes skis and skishoes with wood cores, and a flex that is great in steeper terrain.
They both have their place.

I have no irons in this fire, but living here in Boulder, frankly, Ol' Wardo was thoroughly and completely discredited way back 15 years ago; tarred and feathered, so to speak; he's not one I would want to quote as a reference or an authority on anything whatsoever. He's a lasting scar on the fabric of the university. A stain.Capercaillie wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 3:05 pm...
If you want some perspective on the issue, read Ward Churchill's books.
If you want to read about XC skiing, get a copy of Jeff Potter's New Wave Nordic Skiing. It is all about recreational XC skiing, the kind of market Altai and OAC are trying to target. I think I saw Jeff post on this forum before. The book does not mention the wide skin skis/ski-raquettes/whatever you want to call them. It would be interesting to get Jeff's opinion.
Otoh, Potters book is a good read.
Could we re direct this forum towards skiing?

Re: Sharing a little dirty secret about OAC
It looks like all the propaganda around that episode had the intended effect. Ward Churchill was cleared of any allegations of research misconduct twice: once in state court, and once by an independent investigation by the American Association of University Professors. There is certainly a stain on the University of Colorado, courtesy of its Board of Regents. They could have easily had him fired for abusing the University's affirmative action hiring policies by falsely claiming that he was a Native American. Two problems with that: 1. It would have exposed the University's affirmative action program as a sham that operated without any due diligence 2. It would not have had the intended effect of discrediting the "inconvenient" facts that Churchill references in his works.fgd135 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 26, 2022 2:18 pmI have no irons in this fire, but living here in Boulder, frankly, Ol' Wardo was thoroughly and completely discredited way back 15 years ago; tarred and feathered, so to speak; he's not one I would want to quote as a reference or an authority on anything whatsoever. Sorry for dragging this off-topic discussion on, but it's something I feel strongly about. It's hard not to when you find out the facts.

A reality check on business and little diatribe about man's inhumanity gets labeled as hate speech by some of you? Such tolerance and open-mindedness. Weak and pathetic.
