I don't think there's any combination of US states justifying a 90$ shipping quote. I shipped skis everywhere in North America... The highest rate I ever paid for a coast to coast shipment was like 45$, and that was for 2 pairs of heavy 70's skis in the same box.

USPS, not UPS.... 8-)

What do you have for sale? Please let us know first...! : )

Some facilities won't ship them with just bubble wrap. You can just cut and tape some boxes to cover them, should be pretty light.

USPS used to be the way to go, but they've been getting more and more expensive.

Check out FedEx too. Sometimes they are the best option.

Get the package as small as you can. It's the size (dimensions), not the weight that will kill you on price. Ship the skis bindingless if you can. If you're also selling the bindings, it's often cheaper to ship them in a a separate box from the skis.

Do one or two wraps of bubble, then cover with cut-up cardboard or that cardboard paper stuff with copious amounts of tape making it as thin as you can.

Like said, I'd check USPS so long as time to get there isn't a huge issue. UPS has always seemed highest when I've priced it out.

Was it an actual UPS office or an authorized shipper?
We ship UPS at work and see two different rates. One is a discounted rate and the other is the posted price.
Big difference between the two. TomH is right about it being the size (dimensions) that really determines the price.
