Updated Alico Ski March

Anyone have experience with this version of the Ski March?

It reminds me of the UK surplus boot I have. I would believe it’s a quality boot, other than that it’s just a guess. If I was spending that kind of money, I would look at an Alaska or a Crispi Antarctic which is a Norwegian welted boot that is available from Fey Brothers in New Hampshire, at a similar price.

I believe you’re in Michigan, I have a once used Ski March in UK size 9, US 10. My son wouldn’t wear them around the house. Made it a mile or so, still haven’t got him on backcountry skis.

That's a nice looking boot, I'll bet it has a better kick and glide flex, and I'd guess it also has a better overall fit. That being said, it has a glue-up sole rather than a stitched Norwegian welt. That makes me think it would be less durable in the long run than the older design, with more pressure points on the duckbill/boot toe junction, more liable to fatigue.
But ya never know.

Fey Brothers are no longer carrying the Antarctic but are carrying the BRE which I have on order. Just nervous about how that gortex will hold up. Have read to many stories about the Alaska losing its sole. Sources for Norwegian welt are drying up. Just heard from Alico that they’re no longer making any Norwegian welt boots, only glued sole.

I may reach out about the Ski March, Fisheater. I used a pair all last winter and generally liked them. Unfortunately one of mine developed a split across the pins. Was very heartbreaking after all that breaking in!

If your boot outsole cracked at the pin line, I'd guess the 3 pin bail might've been too snug and pinched the toe. Using a ltwt cable binding instead of pins might still allow you to use the boots, if the midsole is not cracked.
Fwiw, the older model Norwegian welted ASMB is still available on fleabay, albeit in not all sizes. A couple of seasons ago I picked up a spare pair, as those boots are incredible bargains if they fit, lately less than a C-note for a brand new pair, even with shipping. Probably a bit cheaper than a resole of your existing boots, certainly many less piasters than the new injected sole glue ups.

Try searching Ebay for "Alico Ski". I did this just now and there were over 50 auctions listed, albeit a few were for other models, like the nice ski double, and etc. Prices ranged from $6 to $450...

Oh ya, obviously, lol ASMB= "Alico Ski March Boot". Yes I have a pair of the Ski March in the wide. Wow this boot fits my foot so well when I wear it round. Yet this boot is stiff and while fitting me so perfectly at first I know it will take some time to get it right. It will always be heavy. There is a Crispi Bre in my future to satisfy that Norwegian stich itch and give me a boot I can count on.

Perhaps a rookie mistake then. I should target to have some play between the duckbill and the bail? How much force can the pins take? My understanding was that they are there more just to help keep the boot aligned but not take much actual force. eBay turned up zero size 10 March boots. Bummer.
