Howdy All
As the topic suggests I want to only purchase one ski system that does it all (and I know won't do any one thing well but that's ok). I live in Ontario, Canada and my skiing will be predominantly in flat Ontario with a trip or two to the Eastern mountains per season. I probably won't ski more than 20 times a season.
Here are more parameters:
-a system that works well both on the flats and hills but my preference is downhill, control and turning (tele turns).
-I am willing to sacrifice weight and ease of glide on the flats for better performance on the hills
-even when I go out in Ontario in relatively flat areas I seek more hilly area and enjoy going up and down rather than touring/traversing.
-price is somewhat of a factor
I have looked at the Rottefella Xplore system and it looks really good however accessing the gear seems difficult in North America. I have also just come across the OAC skinbased system (
https://www.skinbased.com/) and it seem really good. I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on these if you skied on them or know more information.
Any feedback is appreciated - thanks!
Abe
I haven’t read everything on this thread but would advise the Scarpa T4, Voile 3 pins on the risers, and Fischer SBound 112 or similar. Fairly light, cheap, good performance XC and downhill.
Any of the Voile 3 pins that are on risers, the risers have a ramp angle that works better given the rocker of the boot, vs. just a flat 3 pin on the skis.
What NOT: leather boots AKA vinyl/cloth/rubber nowadays, mostly these are quickly overwhelmed by tougher conditions, icy, deep, stiff etc. snow or steeper hills. Unless you’re awesome. Something like the Fischer BCX.
You might also get cable bindings, but might be overkill in weight and expense, something like Voile Switchbacks. Voile skis are awesome downhill but maybe overkill for your use especially in the price.
You might get skinnier skis, but deep heavy snow off-trail can bog them down. Perhaps not such a factor in Ontario vs here in Oregon.
You could go with kick waxable skis, but it’s a pain, especially here in Oregon. Cold Ontario is a bit better I suppose. I always prefer waxless fishscales.
