DPS Phantom Application Question

Has anyone here applied the latest DPS Phantom single part product?
In the instructions, it says to wipe off the excess, expose to sun for at least an hour, then nylon brush off the white residual once the product has cured.

I had no white residual on the ski bases and am wondering what’s up?
On the one hand, since it says to wipe off the excess before the cure, I’m not surprised about no residual. And in the other hand, they say there is white residual to brush off.

Any info is appreciated.
Will also try calling DPS again in the morning (got VM when I called yesterday).

I am interested in this too. I applied the two-step Phantom 2.0 to two pair of my skis and it worked beautifully.

Regarding wipe-off, with 2.0 DPS recommended a gentle wipe leaving a thin coat of product on the ski bases. The excess dry chemical did come off as a whitish powder during brushing. Maybe you were too aggressive wiping the liquid after applying it?

Hopefully the new product is as durable and effective as Phantom 2.0.

Yea, it’s a bit confusing with the naming convention.
I think the first version was the Kickstarter version.
Then I think they came out with the commercial release 2.0 (two-part product).
And now they have the 1 - Part Formula.

Almost everything I find on the web is about the 2.0 version.
But for the current 1-Part version, the instructions say to THOROUGHLY wipe off the residual after soak-in and before drying.
I called DPS and they said the 1-Part does not have the driers in it that 2.0 does, and that no white residual after drying is normal.

I used the skis for one day so far and the Phantom seems to work well.
Afternoon wet snow still had some drag, but from what I have read, that sounds normal.
That Phantom is definitely better than nothing, but not as good as a good wax job.
The problem with spring snow is that waxing for the afternoon wet snow doesn’t work well because the soft wax gets run off in the morning, on the frozen corn.
I think one would have to wax later in the day, or start skiing later in the day, for the warm wax to stay on the skis for the wet snow.

DPS says wax will stay on longer.
“And again, if you happen to enjoy waxing, go for it—your topical wax is temporary but it will at least last longer on a PHANTOM treated base than un-treated base. And once it wears off, you'll still enjoy the consistent all-temperature glide and performance of PHANTOM.”

I assume this would apply to grip wax, as well.
Wax the entire ski base, then apply grip wax as needed and have better glide on the unwaxed tip and tail.
But, I have no practical experience with this theoretical idea.
Someone should try this out and report back…

I had exactly that question as well as recommendations for scaled base application. Here's what I asked and the reply from DPS:

I recently picked up a few 1 part phantom kits and have 2 questions.

1. On a scaled base ski like the Voile V6 BC, do you advise using the phantom treatment on the entire base, including scales or just tips and tails?

2. On a standard non-scaled base, will I still be able to use grip wax if treated with phantom? My concern here is whether the grip (kick) wax will still stick to the base well.

1. Apply to the whole ski
2. PHANTOM won't affect bonding of wax. After applying PHANTOM Glide to the ski, buff the scales really well with the polishing pad before applying kick wax.

I'll test out the theory (in season). I'll probably only commit it to one pair at first and see how things work out.
