anyone have experience mounting TTS bindings on something like Voile Objectives?
anyone have experience mounting TTS bindings on something like Voile Objectives?
I'm assembling my new "telemark skimo race setup" for the upcoming season on the east coast.
I've just purchased some new TXPro boots. I was not able to find the holy grail older F1 or F3 with bellows
I'm pretty much sold on the TTS bindings now, eg https://www.voile.com/voile-telemark-te ... stiff.html
for skis, I am thinking of something like Voile Objectives or Backland 78s.
my concern is mounting TTS bindings on skis where the manufacturer( eg Voile) voids the warranty when mounting tele bindings on AT skis. Ive been reading that something like freedom inserts can prevent tear-out. seems like swap plates might also help with tear-out, and also provide stack height. on narrow waisted skis like Objectives or Backlands, do I want extra stack height? I can't tell if the TTS with TXpro is going to overhang the width the waist and therefore benefit from raised stack height?
has anyone here got experience skiing a binding/ski setup like I am describing? would love to hear your thoughts ....

Re: anyone have experience mounting TTS bindings on something like Voile Objectives?
To get more screws into my Objective I used the 15mm plastic riser from Voile. I like getting high, no problems. I can't imagine my T4 is any wider than your boot, no problems.
I have inserted hundreds of inserts. The Hyper construction (Objective) would need diligent epoxy use to really nail it if you want to go this route. Some cores take inserts really nicely, some don't. Even the Voile standard core (non-hyper) was difficult and not as smooth as I would have liked, though I am confident in its security now.
If you could get 6 screws in the Objective with a plate I would feel really solid about it. Is the Voile TTS 6 screws? I forget. I have had no problem with 4 screws and T4's and mellow terrain with mine, but I don't think I'd pair it with the T2 Eco or big boot and go schralp Tuckerman Ravine with it.

Voile told me the problems they had with pull out were associated with very active bindings.

Yes, they told me the same: 4 screw active bindings, X2's specifically, with big guys in big boots.lowangle al wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 11:27 amVoile told me the problems they had with pull out were associated with very active bindings.
I think the TTS is pretty close to activity level to the X2 depending on position.
I was perusing the Voile site, this review under the TTS is very interesting and worth a read. If you go this way sounds like risers is definitely maybe a good idea for more clearance?
Review guy at Voile.com wrote: I was surprised to see the width of the toe when they arrived. Our maritime snowpack can be kinda firm and the powder is often easier to measure in decibels than cm’s so a ski 90mm-ish underfoot works well… But that leaves at least 8mm or so hanging over the edge. I’m old enough to have had 30mm risers for my 75mm boots to stop boot out when trying to make skinny skis bite on the hard pack… but now we can go wider not higher. So I bought a pair of skis at 107mm under foot. I suspect I could go as skinny as 100mm underfoot. Any less than that and I’d be worried that the pin that cams into place would not have enough pressure under it to hold the pin in the boot. Once the bindings arrived and I spotted the issue I did try asking Voile via social media, and also the shop I bought them from what the minimum width ski was for this binding, unfortunately no reply from either. I realise this is a legacy of Voile using a toe from the world of split board touring where the split boards are much wider than any ski. Maybe Voile could include a minimum suggested ski width in their product description? Following a tip from the “Dost-father” of Telemark rolling the boot into the pin that cams shut and then closing the toe worked well, once you are in they ski like any solid wire tele binding. Enough even to hold a fatish ski on edge and carve a turn on hardpack. The Stiff spring is bonkers stiff… probably too stiff IMHO even in the Neutral position for anything other than a World Cup racer. I simply cannot imagine how the tip of the trailing ski will not get so much pressure that it dives into deep snow and the rider goes over the handlebars… that said I haven’t had a deep day to test this yet. I’ll look to buy a normal set of springs when they are in stock again. I’ve spent a day skinning with this setup and they feel just as good as my previous low tech setup.
Re: anyone have experience mounting TTS bindings on something like Voile Objectives?
thanks guys. I don't consider myself qualified to mount the bindings myself, so I will be looking for a shop that sells the bindings and skis and has the knowledge and experience to mount properly with inserts and likely risers.
Re: anyone have experience mounting TTS bindings on something like Voile Objectives?
looks like the TTS bindings are not going to meet my needs. just checked the Northeast Skimo race series and the rules say you must have the ability to lock down your heel( they don't say you have to lock it down, just that you must have bindings that enable lock down). you must also have lateral release bindings which is less of an issue. if you want to run "traditional tele gear" you can run the Recreational race, but I don't intend to race the Rec division.
the only tele binding that I am aware of that meets the requirements is Meidjo, and the heel lock down only works with Crispi.
