I used the nylon x- skins with a pulk today and to be honest they offered a bit of a miserable experience and i switched them to Mohair after just 5 minutes. I did not quite remember from the last time i used them. Amazing grip for their length yes, but quite unpredictable and poor glide. Mohair x-skins are much much better in use, and when you need more traction than the Mohair skins offer for longer climbs you might as well put on full length skins. Just my 2ø.

The short skins are exactly that - kicker skins. They are a step up from wax on rolling hills or warm weather. They will not be enough for steeper hills.

Lots of Ascension Nylon skins on eBay, 60mmx210cm for $29.99 usd
This looks like a fabulous deal, new skins, free shipping. American made, too. I think I'll buy a couple pair as spares and loaners. Thanks for posting that info.
These are skins surplused from a US military contract; that is the Ascension brand skin that was issued with the Asnes MT65, and others.

I agree with everyone that said you'll need full length skins for sustained climbing; the kicker type skins work for some conditions but not for continuous uphill and irregular terrain, esp. carrying packs or a heavy sled.

Here is some food for thought for you kicker skin users. When things get too steep for your kicker skins why not just add a skin to the front of the ski with a simple tip loop and run it down to where the kicker skin starts. It may not be as good as a full skin but it might make enough of a difference to work in most situations.

this is good, woods. I 2nd that. get 2 pairs of these and call it good. if you are there the whole day, 2 pairs is excellent for steep climbs. Thanks!!!

I have 50mm contour mixed skins but they are expensive at $119.99 ... these work very well to climb. i have skiied up and down steep 1500ft slopes with these on the skog and sverdrup.

but...the nylon at $30 is unbeatable. i just ordered 2! they were $27 each with rhe quantity discount. I will use them for old dirty late spring snow. also will try them on my wider S112 (79cm underfoot). these will work great on steep refrozen snow+dirt. this is one thing I hated about taking Xskins and EZ skins... you can really get them dirty with pine needles, leaves, dirt, etc. and also fray the hairs over rock/scree.

I may trim them for my narrower skis. will try them out first on the ft62.
