Actually Stephen I meant they are different skis. Given the time, terrain, and snow I could use both skis in different situations. The difference in longitudinal stiffness, flex, and camber, make the Xplore version quite a different ski from the original FT.
For me I can see the Xplore getting almost all the time. I was going to keep the FT, maybe mount it NNN-BC and play with that. Now I don’t know, maybe I should put it up for sale while it’s still new enough for it’s next owner to appreciate it, rather than just think of it as some old ski they got a bargain on.

This is could be significant- the 78 is no Gamme- but it is certainly a decent XC ski.
… it aint no ‘66, either.

I skiied my new TR78 today for the first time - breaking trail in 5-day old, ever so slightly crusty on top, ~12” virgin snow.

The 196cm TR78 did fine, but is a noticibly slower ski than my 205cm TN66.

I have to doubt that both the old (V2) and new (V3) versions will be offered in the future, but who knows…[/color]
Gen 1 and Gen 2 of the FT62 have the exact same geometry and camber-flex pattern- to the tail. The only difference is that Gen 1 has a more open tail than Gen 2.
Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.

Yes- my 199 78 is much slower than my 210 E99- it also slower than my 205 E109.
But- if the 196 FT Xplore is a faster XC ski than an equivalent-length 78- the new FT Xplore is INDEED a redesigned ski (i.e. my 1st/2nd gen FT62s are completely dead XC skis compared to my 78...)

@lilcliffy, I don’t know what your point was?

I was just saying I think Asnes will not sell both the Gen 2 (green), and Gen 3 (black) in the future — just the new Gen 3 Xplore (I know they are both for sale at this time).
Pure conjecture on my part.

Im going to amend this remark.

Skiied the TR78 196 again tonight.
Temps have been squarely in the 20’s (F) for the past few days, and its kick-and-glide performance compared to the previous outing was MUCH better.

I think that first time, even thougb the air temps were in the low ‘teens, I bet the snow temps were much colder (from the sub-zero previous night) - and cold enough for Swix Polar to act as a grip/kick wax.

Learned a lesson: air temps dont matter too much. Maybe I need to pickup a snow thermometor?

I currently own the new Rabb 68 and Ingstads, there’s definitely much less camber in Rabb and is much softer than Ingstad. I am sending some quick photos with comparison between those two.
@KnoxPolk You seem to be the only one around who got the new Rabb. Did you get the chance to try them. We "need" your report :D So far, we got reports from the new FT62 and the Sverdrup but would be great to get some "real life" info on the Rabbs.

Maybe you are actually too busy skiing to drop by TTalk ;)

But, as we remove the MT51 from our lineup, we're working on an exciting new project and a brand new line of potential skis to replace the whole MT and MR range. In a season or two, there will be a major development in that category of skis! Stay tunes.
A couple seasons have passed. Will be interested to see what if anything comes to replace the whole MT and MR range.

just another data point: in fresh 5" and 12" powder, the TR78s were fantastic this weekend. grip up everything. good flotation. glide adequate - but not much glide to be had in these conditions in any event.
