Thank you for the kind words ! Im so lucky to live not far from a nordic trail system. This is 1 of the examples that we have not far from here. I think I am going to go hit one of these this weekend !

@Dxmetal FYI, HWY 21 is currently closed between ID City and Lowman due to heavy snow fall. Hopefully they have it cleared before the weekend. I'm planning on camping up at Gold Fork this weekend if I can get there.

Here's a good source for current road conditions:

Here's an ARC GIS link for the trail system.

SNOTEL link for popular BC areas near us:

Cheers!

Jalp ! thank you so much !!! ye i heard of the closure, including the middle fork going. Any other areas in the vicinty that is good for backcountry XC ? The foothills are too narrow and tight of trail system unfortunately.

@Dxmetal I'm actually pretty optimistic about 21 being cleared by the weekend. The heavy snow should be tapering off on Friday. We shall see...

Yeah, the lower foothills trail system won't be much for good skiing unless we really get pounded with snow. That could still very well happen but we aren't there yet. The upper foothills should be prime right about now though. I have a few spots up off Bogus Basin road that I'll hit but only if I can get up there on a weekday. I'm not much interested in fighting the weekend resort traffic. Those drivers are insane! Check out the Headwaters of Upper Dry Creek trail, Stack Rock Trail (although it's probably a bit narrow)and also North Shafer Butte Road. Those would be my first choices in this area.

Charcoal Gulch trail is an easy option that starts at the ID City airport. It's a 3 mile +800' out and back. I'll usually hit it if the road north looks worse than I want to deal with.

Mores Creek Summit is "BC central" for the Boise area. It's usually packed with AT skiers and snow machiners. This area is definitely full of avy terrain. I'll go up there for turns on occasion but I know where the low angle stuff is.

Lots more in the area. Feel free to PM me.

My evolutionary journey. On my own without all your advice and help, I would've ducked with the Rabb 68 at 172cm. Got the Ingstad WL185cm next and finally the 195cm Ingstad WL just got in today and now already at REI to get the viole 75mm mounted. Thank god REI was so awesome in taking the 3x skis back without any hassle. Sidenofe: REI is now sold out of the 195cm Ingstad WL.

Even though I missed awesome opportunity to ski last week where we got dumped by a major snow storm, but I'm really Thankful for all the input I have gotten from all of you here. REI should have my 195cm Ingstad and Voile 3 pin mounted and ready to go this Friday. Guess what I am doing this weekend and will be coming back for more questions and wisdom.

@Dxmetal I wonder if you got a longer Rabb and if so what are your impressions? Not a lot of info on the new Rabb.
