Skiing the Franconia Notch bike path yesterday, with Woodserson and Plow. We started at Flume Gorge, and admired the views along the way, making our way past The Basin, Lafayette Campground (great views of the mountains), Profile Lake, and two Old Man of the Mountain viewing sites.

Lots of rolling hills along the bike path make for a ski trip that is much more fun than you think a bike path should be.

I took some inspiration from Riel and Woodserson's recent posts and hit the bike path on Monday.

Surprisingly, XC skis are horrible on the waters of Lake Tahoe... but pretty good along the shore. Nordic learning as I go. Some do alpine touring... this is me as a shoreside tourist. (Jan.2020, pre-pandemic... gloves @ the ready instead of a mask.)

Was figuring you folks back east who like skipping through trees would like this run. Apparently, very few people at Deer Valley did today!
It was pretty nice.

At Delta, our motto was, "We're not happy 'till you're not happy". I can tell you that after being murdered by my son skiing today, and then enjoying the mellow pleasure of that terrain, I was pretty happy. I'll be there tomorrow!

Hey is that photo looking up the hill or down the hill? At first I thought up, but after a second look I'm not sure.

Wait.... Delta operator, or Delta Airlines?
Your quote works either way.

It was looking downhill. Just steep enough to keep your speed up, turning.
Yeah, Delta Air Lines. Can you imagine an operator that needs the creature comforts of Deer Valley?

This morning at DV. Another 6"-12" today.

BCC and LCC got 2 feet +, of course. Both canyons are closed for avalanche mitigation.
Avy danger is at "11" today!

I think our flow looks to cut off in 5 or 6 days. Hopefully, that'll bend the jet enough to hit out east. I need a few days of recovery! This is day 26 and the only thing that doesn't hurt is my left eyebrow.

After a morning of skiing today I went back to that meadow-y section. It's called Sunset Glades and is considerably more extensive than I realized. Super mellow, beginner friendly and then drops into a very intermediate friendly section. Lots of people in there with their kids, eating it up. Really enjoyable.

Looking downhill. More skied up this afternoon.

Then it starts to open up a bit. It's still just steep enough to carry some speed.

Pops out into a meadow that then drops a bit to the intermediate section.

This is the droppy section. I'm thinking right at 30 degrees, but it didn't seem even that steep:

Then it crosses a cat track and down into another intermediate section.

Then in the afternoon, I headed to Rattler and the Wasatch lift. Skied out by now. The amazing thing is the lack of crowd. DV was actually sold out today, and for my first 9 runs I was averaging 11-minute circuits. Crazy.
