I'm holding out on these because I think I want the fischscales. It seems like fish scales and skins get you through all climbing fine. I want to know what other people prefer though?

Probably these will be gone soon.
This is a fine combination, and easy too.

Wax can be better, it can also be finnicky especially around the freezing mark.

I'm almost all wax now. But it took time and frustration and I'm still working on my game.

Question for @fisheater

Frozen granular groomed base with 0.5" of overnight fresh snow & graupel on top and temps starting at 30 but go to 34 in the afternoon. Sun and shade. What wax?

Hopefully violet special, that would be best. You could also have a chance with Rex Universal Tar wax at freezing if there is enough fresh snow. Tar wax likes fresh snow. You may need to go to red/silver and it may stick in the shade. If it sticks a little violet special on top.
Those are Swix colors. I have not tried Toko.

Have fun!!! We got rain last night. The forecast for the next ten days is more of the temperature roller coaster with just a tease of snow.

I am now hoping for Christmas Snow, which is the best snow of the year!

Red Special turned out to the be the ticket. I started with Violet Special but ultimately had to up the game. I didn't think about the Rex Tar. I think I have some, or at least Rode Tar.

Classic setup: Karhu Guides and Voile 3 pin cable. 185cm

(Virtually identical setup I’m using to faceplant in my avatar!)

$100 cad. (Worth it for probably another $100 shipping!)

I think the same person is listing some garmont excursions 27 for $100 too.

Thanks. Call me a cynic, but that's awfully good to be true (and $50 CAD to ship domestic). Guess I'll reach out, though.

At 190lbs out of the shower, I think they might be one size small. Hell of a price.

The guides? No, no. I think they’re probably a good size for you as an Ontario backcountry tour for turns ski. I love my 175cm and I’m 5’10” 175.

Shh! I'm telling myself this story to let me pass them up. I bought two used woodies last spring; used Outabound 88s this autumn, as well as new Gammes; Nordic tour skates, and Kahru surplus skis last winter; and the boots and bindings for all of them.
