Wow - is that for real? Now that is cool...
I think you own those skis now too, don't you?

What ? XCD on those fat rockered skis with CABLE bindings!! I bet those skis are (like all of ours from that era) at least 80-85mm in the mids!!

Re: Picture of the week
I had a friend who had an old pair of BC XC skis from that era and they had cable bindings without pins and the bail, like the pair Johnny has. They were about the same size as an Epoch actually, with maybe less sidecut.
Those tips don't look very rockered, they look about the same as a modern mid-fat XCD ski.
Those boots are REAL lace up leathers. I bet you had to have some damn good technique to control those suckers down a hill.
Otto could schtem those like a madman, I'm sure. I wonder if Grandma was making lady turns?

The "Swing" had actually as a main component an "Abstem", Mike..A rebound as it were off the downhill ski with this lovely punch-through with the upper arm ( can be problematic in terms of over-rotation).

Actually I bet Grandma's bindings are like these ones:
I didn't see the leather toe strap initially.

Of course it's for real..!
It's on my mother's side... I don't have much pictures on the Bri7 side, do you? There was several old family portraits here when we first visited the house... I'd like some of my own family... Do you think Marie ever skied? Send me all you have!
It's funny cause I had no idea she used to ski. That was probably in Magog or Orford where they used to live... That was before the chairlift invasion... Looks like a pretty cool XCD area... Now I realize why I'm so obsessed with XCD... It's in my blood... Maybe Grandma was a Knight Templar of the XCD Order herself back then...! (I should check the Order's official records...) Maybe she was friends with Jackrabbit...!
Wow! Good guess Mike! Do you have any more info on those bindings? I think the skis look fat because they seem to be pretty short... (probably some carbon rando racing skis from the late 30's... : )

Oh man - is that caption from CD for real? That's too funny. And it's sure to start a war... I had no idea you were so cynical Johnny...
I don't know man - it seems silly to promote anything. People are going to do what they want to do. The guys out west think we are a bunch of pussies for prancing around in the hills and hollers with xc skis on. The guys that ski Whiteface think it's not 'core enough either. Fuck 'em. If someone decides that AT is the path they want to take, go for it... if they want to ski REAL ice, and by that I mean the shit that is usually climbed with crampons and ice axes and grows on the steep shit out here, then go for it. To me it's absolutely insane that people have skied the trap dike - but hey - if it's fun for them, go for it...
That's why I can't understand why Ron is so hell bent against certain skis or boots or whatever. It's madness. All this talk about flailing and cheese dick boots... it's a bunch of high school posturing. Good 'ole fashioned dick swingin'.
You think Grandma would have been part of that? Our wives? Fuck no. That's what they HATE about skiing. I don't hate a lot of things, but I hate that.
That's why I like the fun philosophy. Because if it isn't fun, you should be doing something else. All the glory and trophies and dick swingin' don't mean shit if it isn't fun. And not everyone has the same idea of what fun is... an ounce of acceptance goes a long way.
