They are waiting for the second one- but I understood that the "two-equal-ski" didn't happen until more recently, and that for much of history there was one very wide ski to glide on with a shorter and small pusher ski. Am I dreaming this? They should know this, right?
Check out the platform for the foot! Very very similar to modern wooden skis. (modern as in the past two centuries)

that's amazing. You can only wonder about the rest of the story - did losing this ski cost someone their life, or other misfortune?

Re: Old ski found in melting glacier in Norway
great article.
I visited that museum in Oslo about 25 yrs ago. Oslo is awesome, as is all that part of the world. I also visited the Ski Museum (also exhibit of Admunsen's ventures) @ Holmenkollen ski jump, Nansen's Fram, and other sites.
Total trip was 4 weeks that included boat trip up the coast, around the Nordkapp (lat .71d N), and down into Finland & Sweden. There in October, so no snow yet that year.
If you ever get the opportunity, go for it.

Interesting article. Im no archeologist, but judging from the design of the ski and the facts that only one was found and leashes weren't invented yet, I'd guess it was lost on a powder day.

And I was wrong... looks like both skis about the same length as opposed to a shorter "pusher" ski

Re: Old ski found in melting glacier in Norway
This is amazing! They found the second ski!
I possibly shared this in the Pictures Pictures Pictures thread, but we went on a trans-Norway road trip this summer and went past the rock engravings at Bøla. It's a truly magical spot.
One of the engravings is of a full-sized skier! (The first picture is my useless phone picture).
Bent forward for double-poling.
Weird reverse camber on those skis. But probably going tip-to-tail with Elk Fat Polar.

Re: Old ski found in melting glacier in Norway
Norway is a wonderful country and I agree, if you can go(once this pandemic is over as they wisely don't want us there right now), it's a great place to vacation. We go to see family and truly thankful for some fun adventures around the country through the years. If you get the chance, it is worth the trip to visit the home of Sondre and the museum in Morgedal. I put this little video together a few years back for the Son's of Norway lodge(I am the current VP of our local lodge). I hope you enjoy and it helps get you there.1EyedJack wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2018 2:04 pmgreat article.

Great video, thanks for posting.
I've been wanting to go to Norway to xc ski before I knew about Telemark or Sondre.
