So the BC Government shut down Whistler Blackcomb in March due to COVID. But you can still ski up from the Village on the Singing Pass Trail, which is one of the accesses to Garibaldi Provincial Park. So I went for a mellow ski up the trail on a lovely warm spring day. The shaded areas were still a bit hard, but in the sun it was magic. Here’s to a post COVID world, where life comes back to normal.

Ship Lake Pass, AK. It was hot today! 53F in the morning and 67F by the end of the day

The wind was ripping through the corridor...by the time I got to the pass, it felt like hurricane winds...nearly blowing me off the mountain!

The snow was very soft as expected. My 185cm Asnes Skog did very well today and was undoubtedly the best ski I had for this tour. I used 30mm mohair x skins for the 1st 1000ft vertical and full length 50mm skins for the latter 1500ft vertical. I wish it were a touch colder as I think the downhill performance would have been exceptional on these skis had the snow been colder and more firm. I will have to try these out again on a colder day at higher elevation.

11.7 miles; 2600ft.

Last ski in beautiful western Wyoming for this year.
Almost didn’t go — sure glad I did.
2,800 feet of 3” of fresh powder under sunny, blue skies.
Togwotee Pass
What a great way to end the season, before heading home to the PNW.

I think we still have a few days left if we go up high.

Hey now Muskie, open bails ready to be stepped on! (I am the self designated annoying open bail police. I've been refraining lately but there have been lots of open bails going on around these thar parts so I'm picking on you)

BUT THE TURNS

Hey, I like belt buckles. Check out my new favorite one:

Brainard Lake April 23 2021. Bluebird day, or a Grey Jay day, no wind, overcast to pc, about -1 to +1º C. In many areas, snow is drifted 3-4 meters deep, and all the trails are well covered. Beautiful spring day!

Hot day yesterday. Frozen crust in the AM, total mash by noon!

Going to get out tomorrow morning even earlier and try out the Skogs in the AM on crust and corn, should be a blast!

Nice seeing you out there, lowangleal! That was a pretty cool coincidence.

I regret to say we had a couple of days of proper sea-level powdery stuff.

Following reindeer tracks.

Image

We thought we'd just be following a river with the highest point at 250m, so I went on my Gammes, my wife opted surprisingly for her MR48 Skins to 'parasite' in my broken trail... but it turned out there were some hilariously steep bits. This was some of the most beautiful terrain I've seen here, and completely new to us.
