Kids waxless BC tele ski options
Kids waxless BC tele ski options
Does anyone know if there is a kids version of something like an Sbound or Vagabond? Waxless, metal edge that can take a three-pin? Seems like that with some Teledactyls or G-rex boots would be the perfect all-around setup for little kids. Easier to control for general XC bashing around, and with cables, a perfectly decent mellow slope resort ski, especially if they want to drop a knee like mom and dad. Anything out there fit the bill?

Sorry, no specific ski recommendation, but here’s the video of what I did for my son when he was 7:
Tele-dactyl/saurus boots and Rossi jr cable bindings.
Worked ok, but I’d pack the divets a little tighter than shown if I did it again.

Hé Lo-fi, what are these Rossi Jr Cables? Never heard of. Probably some Rottefella bindings...

Don’t be embarrassed... many stores list them as Rossignol binding on their website because Rossignol is the distributor for Rottefella in North America... You sure must have something else to be embarrassed of
Another subject... is there any snow left in the Parc de la Gatineau for backcountry XC or it’s almost all gone like here? All gone in less than a week... so much for spring skiing this year but we saw that coming as we never got a good base through January and February..
Re: Kids waxless BC tele ski options
You’re right, I’m generally embarrassed most of the time because of all cringey things I do!
No more bc skiing here. It disappeared just as you described within a few days last week.
I’ve already started counting the days to next season.

One option might be the Altai Kom ski in its shortest version which is 150cm. It is a lighter weight ski and wide. For a smaller person it’s like a wicked wide powder ski, which it doesn’t take much to get it up and planing , especially for lightweights like kids.
While the Kom is a sophisticated versatile ski It is also great value at about half the price of Voile or G3 traction skis. My kids at 9, 11 and 14’ all used the 150s successfully with the kids Garmont plastic boots.
Otherwise I just looked for easy turning alpine skis and bought cheap used or rock skis and dremelled in the fish scales or grip waxed the skis.
Or you can try the skin skis/snowshoe’ish at 140idh lengths from Altai or Black Diamond or OAC. Those tend to climb really well but they don’t glide very well and so are grabby and maybe trickier and slow to tour and turn.

Lots of great info. Thanks Teletalkers.
I like the DIY route. I dig around for some kids alpine skis that are light and cheap, with decent camber, then have at em with the dremel. Now, to find some of those Rotte Jrs...
