The picture was taken in Carpathians range, Fagaras mountains. I'ts early season and the good snow can be found only on higher grounds. But as the snow accumulates, we'll look for lower altitude terrain. Last season was a disaster, hopefully this one will be better!

Yeah there's no real decent ski under 2kg... (Unless you're short and rich... : ) But the good news is that since you live in Europe, you can buy plenty of really nice super-light tech bindings if you wanna keep your TXPros...

It seems like it takes a lot of courage and humility for people to go back to 75mm. (It also takes a lot of guts to suggest people to do so... : ) Your mates would sure make fun of you. They will think it's terribly lame to switch to leathers and pins. But I can't help recommending them to any true ski lover, no matter the difficulty or steepness of the terrain you are skiing.

It's really hard to tell a serious ski mountaineer to go back to pins and leathers, but if you read:

Cross Country Downhill by Steve Barnett

he will convince you that you can ski anything with some skinnies and low top shoes. And it isn't all telemark, he encourages you to use the right turns depending on the snow conditions and terrain.

If anything, it could be a nice novelty piece for your mantel.

Personally, I was surprised at how good the book is and how well the techniques work if done like he explains them. The way they seem to teach telemark these days I can't draw any parallel between what Steve says and what they do. They start you off doing wedge turns and traverses and monomarks. The way Steve explains a tele turn I don't think you could even do a monomark. If anything it is more closely related to a stride when kicking and gliding.

Personally, the book didn't make it to the mantel yet, as I just finished the fireplace a few weeks ago... But it does have a special place in my bookshelf...

I was pretty sure you had that book Johnny... but I was recommending it to Marius.

So, is it relevant, or is it junk?

You bet. But for your current ski you should probably look at TTS.

Hi,

I'm Cristi, from Romania too... just had a revelation using:

Voile 3-pin + Scarpa T4

I'm an AT skier for more then a decade and I've quit since I bought this gear. It cannot be any simpler then that. I admire simplicity in general. This is the real life.

3-pin rules!
