Outlaw-X Snaps
Re: Outlaw-X Snaps
I just got back from skiing 7 days in Vt on my 2 year old outlaw x bindings. I only skied then 1 yr because I blew my ACL out after the first year of ownership. I skied 7 days straight and on day 7I broke the duck but clean off on my right and snapped one jbend on the left and had to &$@?! Walk down the damn mountain. I am 5’9.5” and 150 lbs I have skied out west before but not in a while I ski very aggressive and mainly ski the east coast. Boots are scarpa to pro. That being said I don’t think that the guys at 22 really understand what the conditions that we ski in on the East coast and the forces it takes to hold an edge on boiler plate ice and how hard we’re driving these things. 22 said they beefed up that area and have seen it and are sending me replacement parts. But I lost a day of skiing and confidence in the binding, shouldn’t happen...
Re: Outlaw-X Snaps
I just had the same issue On my Christmas vacation skiing in VT. I broke my right binding clean off at the j-bend at duckbill and my left I snapped one of the J- bends (see pics). Had to walk down the damn mountain!! I bought the outlaws x two years ago skied 1 season then I blew up my ACL had recon and missed a season of tele. This was my season back on the MT. So these were skied on 1 season and then 7 days straight in VT they both snapped mid day day 7. I ski about 30 days a season in southern VT. I weigh 150lbs and ski very aggressively I use the scarpa tx pro. I lived in steamboat back in the 90’s so I understand the difference in conditions from east coast to out west I think the the guys at 22 (as great as they are, cuz they r taking care of me) don’t really understand how hard East cost tele guys drive they’re gear, and I don’tmean that we are more aggressive or better skiers I mean the conditions are consistently difficult lots of ice and because of the amount of force to hold that edge on ice is a lot more than powder/better consistent conditions stuff breaks that wouldn’t normally break out west. Just my take on it I could be wrong and I’m just a tele beast lol

I know this is an older thread, but just had a similar issue. Slide wire snapped at the 90 degree bend. This failure was at high speed on the first run at Mt. Snow. Luckily only slid out for 100+ ft. Had to demo alpine gear to ski with my family. These are outside of the 2yr warranty, since I started skiing them in 1/2019. Might have about 80 days on these, but do ski fairly aggressive. I use Scarpa tx comps and stiffy springs, but don’t drop my knee as low with NTN. Both bindings also have main plate rivets broken, but no idea how long these have been broken.
Talking with 22D, the slide wire material has been update to help prevent failure. Both bindings needed to be unmounted and sent to 22D for repair. I attempted to remove one pivot screw so I wouldn’t need to unmount, but it’s epoxied in and requires heat. Almost stripped one allen head. Bindings are currently in the mail.
Definitely lost some confidence in these and worry about future failures. I recommend inspecting your rivets and rear assemblies before each ride.

I have a few questions regarding the type of stainless steel used in the bindings. Could you specify whether it is martensitic, austenitic, or ferritic stainless steel? Additionally, was the bending process performed under heating, and is there a heat-affected zone (HAZ) on the rod?Bri7 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 9:02 pmToo much variables, too less informations.@Bri7
Perhaps a little more nickel sprinkled in?
Which kind of SS was used? Martensitic, austhenitic or ferretic? Was the bend perform under heating? Is there a HAZ (heat affected zone) on the rod?
I’d like to see how titanium perform on that king of binding. I have a rod somewhere sitting in the garage...
Please make me a killer deal on your broken bindings!
I am also interested in understanding how titanium might perform for this kind of binding. I have a titanium rod in my garage that I could potentially use.
