well I was about to pull the trigger on the Icelandic Pioneer 109's. I just spoke with Erik Fey and he told me that they are sold out. But he recommended the 2021 SummitCone Exile 106 . I told him that I wanted 1 ski for Montana, and that was his recommendation. has anyone skied the Summitcone Exile?
It's interesting that Summitcone - and some other manufacturers as well, are including rubber sheets in their skis. In 1967 or so, I raced slalom on a pair of Head skis with a rubber sheet that was purported to allow the ski to "snake" over irregularities in the snow. I actually thought it did something that did make for a really nice ride, at the time, and I worked in a shop that had a small model of the ski that you could use to demonstrate the effect that was pretty cool!
I think mid-100's underfoot and sub-20m turn radius is in the sweet spot for general western skiing, for sure.
not yet. I've had the webpage open for 2 weeks. unfortunately Erik told me they ship within 1-2 days of order, so I've just not ordered yet. he should have told me it takes 5 weeks...

I don't understand. You need to wax them and see how they fit in between the bedsheets. How do they smell, how do they feel in your hand? Do your boots mate well? How are they scraping up the hardwood floor as you waddle into the kitchen? Does your jacket compliment the color? Then you have to fit them to the travel bag.
haha. you are right! I also need to practice taking skins on and off, that will prob take 3-4 weeks,. I better get ordering. but actually after that other post about someone's boots not fitting their bindings, I do want to make sure of that. I have used my boots in Outlaws before, so I don't expect issues.
Just talked to Erik and ordered the Summitcone Exile 106 in a 182cm mounted with 22 Design Outlaw X Large. I'm also having them cut some skins to fit. I'd been meaning to get some 3 piece poles for trail running, so I ordered them also for uphill.

I REALLY think the 182 is the better length for you, Vs. a 174.
Let us know how it turns out!
