yup, the NATO skins still have the old metal clip. On the Combat NATO white skis Asnes mills out the area under the metal toe of the skin to make it more flush with the base too - this could be done to other skis. In fact I've wondered why this isn't done to all Asnes skis.

It's probably worth buying the 45mm NATO skins just to get the old-style clips - they use slots to hold the skin in place and it looks like it'd be fairly easy to change out the skin when it wears out. I've found the nylon skins to work pretty well on the Gamme when skiing on ice, if I shorten them to heel plate.

But I don't use the skins when it's below freezing, I'm much rather use kick wax on cold snow. Unless it's very granular or icy, I don ski much when it's that icy, I usually swim laps or something

PS, Madshus Intelligrip kicker skins had another way of doing this - they attach at the tip of the ski, and use a gliding material for the upper part of the skin, which turns to skin-material in the kick zone. not sure if they're still making these. I had a pair but the glue went dry and I like using the X-skins better.
