Re: When do people find time to ski??
I previously lived in Louisiana, got in 1 trip of skiing per year, usually 6 days of skiing When I was teaching, it was sometimes a little longer.
Since retiring, I live in a town at 1000 ft. elevation in WA state, surrounded on 2 sides by 5500 ft. mountains. It's about a 1 hour drive each way for downhill skiing, and about 1 1/2 hours each way for XC skiing (I durrently do both). It t ry to get a day of some kind of skiing in every week, alpine during the week, XC if the weather and snow are decent (it's been stormy this year). I also may make 1 or 2 longer ski trips. This year, winter started late year, I spent 4 days at Silver Star in December. I will be in Wyoming next week. When there is snow in town, I ski on the golf course, That has been 1 day this year, 2 weeks last year.
There is limited benefit to skiing a lot of days on the same trails. While it is good exercise, some of the experience gets lost. So I am not trying to set any record. 11 days so far this year, I expect to end somewhere in the 20's. My wife and I have spent a lot of time with our 2 year old granddaughter.

Re: When do people find time to ski??
I am professionally unemployed in Bend, Oregon. I ski about 5-6 days a week.
I do a lot of my turns on Tumalo Mountain where I earn my turns on this 2-mile and 1500 foot skin-up. In the Spring I'll go across the street to Mount Bachelor and skin up to the Summit and down. That's 2800 vertical of skinning up. I haven't bought a lift ticket this season. I love all the back-country skiing within 30 minutes of my house.
Also, my professional unemployment gets me out on excursions to a lot of ski-mountaineering on many of the Cascade Volcanoes from Northern California, Oregon, and Washington.
The next time there is a sunny weather window for a few days, I'll go ski Mount St. Helens again before they require reservations (starting on April 1).

I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather.

Re: When do people find time to ski??
I generally start my ski trips about 2 days before I travel to the mountain. I ski all kinds of terrain in my head while I'm sitting at my desk. I am extremely good at bumps, steep drops, and even knuckle-hucks in my head. so actual days skiing is probably 6, but virtual days of skiing is probably another 6, so 12 days per year.

I have sex once every six or seven years, usually around Christmas, and no one ever asks me why I bother.
