Johnny, the Asnes fishscale pattern is a VERY rudimentary negative scale pattern that appears to be shaped with blades after extrusion. I had a good look during my travels there. Nothing to rave about. From what I have understood, they mostly make them for rental outfits.
I think I finally found it! @bgregoire, is that what you were talking about?

I still can't make up my mind... I'm not sure I would call it very rudimentary and nothing to rave about... Ok, it may look like just another very bad homemade attempt at waxlessizing an old pair of skis. But look a bit closer... From what I see, I think it's very, very creative, advanced and artistic. Actually, I find it's pretty cool! I might be wrong, I never tried it, but it seems very natural to me... Like the Mother Nature's Way Scale Pattern... Very organic!

(I know, the North American consumer would never approve this, for he needs a standardized pattern, something even rendered by computer algorithm, something he has seen before, something like-everyone-else...)

Nah that actually looks much worse than the pattern on those early Amundsen waxless skis I mentioned a long time ago. I bet that pair you referenced has homemade diy scales. As you know, beauty is i the eye of the beholder. And besides, to me, nothing looks and feels better than a properly kicked wax ski! Take care

This is an early version of or Waxless pattern. It does not like that at all anymore. We had some skis produced in China some years ago.

We only use our Waxless pattern now, which you can find on our webpage. It's been years since we did any cutting og grinding of soles to get a pattern. Now we press the pattern into the sole with a lot of pressure. This is a technique and technology not so many else use at the point, as it is more expensive and requires more precision.

Here's a picture of our current waxless pattern. We have no plans on ever cutting or doing anything "not good looking and functional" ever again:

You can find the picture on the bottom of the page I linked to.

Crister, we all know about the latest WL skis, I have reviewed the whole thing right here last year:
http://telemarktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2072

Glad to hear that this was a real Asnes-designed pattern... Although I really enjoy the new WL skis, I have to say that I think this older one was very, very beautiful and artistic... 8-)

@Crister,

Could you please confirm if the scales on the photo of that pair of Vettenuten skis Johnny poster were carved at the Asnes factory (original?). I have seen and tried the older fishscale pattern on the Amundsen skis and they were both different to that AND the newer, cooler Asnes fishscale pattern. Cheers.

At 5'5, i'd go for the shorter ones, but that is just me.

Marlow, it all depends on how and where you ski...

Again, they feel pretty short because of the raised tips and tails... And since they are so easy to turn, longer sizes shouldn't be a problem... 8-)
