It has taken me some time but I have figured out a few things...

Fischer and Karhu/Madahus build alot of "camber" into their Nordic backcountry skis. But- here's the thing- all of that camber does not add up to much when their skis are completely unstable both longitudinally and torsionally.

Some initial notes:
- the E99 is much more cambered than the Gamme 54- but, the Gamme is more stable and faster...
- the Eon and E109 are more cambered than the Ingstad and the Combat Nato- but, the Ingstad and Combat Nato are both more stable and faster!!! And the magic Ingstad is just as dreamy as the E109!
- the Falketind 62 and the Storetind make skis like the XCD 10th Mtn/Epoch; XD Guide/Annum; S-Bound 98/112 look like ridiculous wet noodles...

I double checked the Asnes website, while I may be an eater of fish, Johnny is a master fisherman and he caught a great big sucker, me!
What?!? A joke? A fake? This ain’t no Facebook here, where flies are spreading pieces of shit all around stinky, useless ski groups. This is a real, serious forum (no banter allowed!) where fascinating people are sharing real, useful and genuine information!

There really was a military version of the Storetind:
http://www.telemarktalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=2039#p23365

From what I can tell, the Storetind was in production from 2008 to 2016. There were several incarnations of the ski, as you can see below. The Storetind NATO version was very short-lived; it was only produced in 2016. They discontinued the Storetind model that year, it became the Falktind 68 afterwards. After research and development in 2017, they improved and completely redesigned the old Storetind to become what is now called the RABB 68 and the Tindan 86. And they are true wonders.

Thank you for the correction Johnny. Johnny didn't mislead me at all. He posted a photo of the Combat Storetind under the caption, rarest Storetind of all. However after Gareth's reviews, and the fact I like the military skis, I read no words only desired the ski.
Nice job posting the evolution of the Storetind(Tind) Johnny. When you come back to earth we look forward to your thoughts on these skis.

My bad- I didn't mean that I thought they were never made! I just meant that the "joke" was that they were no longer in production and impossible to find!

YES- I would like a Storetind Combat ski- or two- big time!!!

I wonder if they will ever end up in surplus?

We all need to keep our eyes and ears open for the Combat Nato on clearance at surplus stores...

And the Vector BC Combat.

BTW- does anybody know what "Rabb" means?

"Tind" means "peak"- right- as in mountain peak.

Storetind = big peak
Falketind= falcon peak

What do the new names mean?
Rabb?
Nosi?
Tindan?
Fjoro? Fjord?

A few semi-educated guesses:

Rabb = possibly translate as "Ridge", there are also a few places named "Rabben" in Norway, as in "The Ridge"?
Nosi = there is a mountain/mountain range named Nosi in Norway
Tindan = The Peak (in swedish -an means the, so probably the same in norwegian?) There is a place called Tindan in Norway (Finnmark)
Fjoro = Fjørå, a commune in Norway. Probably good topp-touring to be had there

So yeah, basically, to me, it appears these skis are all named after awesone top-touring destinations in Norway.

Enjoy the ski!

Just looked at the map and location of "Fjora" Norway- on a Fjord in the western mountains of Norway. Wow.
I think I need to end up there at some point...

First solid tour on my 205cm Ingstad BC today....

Yummy.

Fast, smooth, supportive, responsive.

Wicked XC performance on 6" of moisture-rich soft snow with refrozen snow underneath over 2 feet of consolidated base.

DREAMY downhill performance- not only can I make them carve- but they feel almost smeary with all of that Nordic rocker...

This is the stuff of dreams for a hillcountry cruiser!
