What part of "Private" in "Private Message" do you not understand? WTF is wrong with you MikeK? AGAIN, Please stop this MikeK. You look like a fool.
Re: interesting old 3-pin Telemark instructional video
You know Mike I thought Conny was maturing but disappointed again...Attacking the messenger is silly...Attack the message, no problem....Like the UP thread as the woods don't look all that different and there is a lot of joy in the writing...Keep it up....Still think the Tao of tele is on longer skinny cambered skis....leathers are almost alive compared to plastics and pins are the bomb....Conny I skied wide and skinny, cambered and not....Heavy and light...In the close to 40 years of experimenting with equipment the TAO is still skinny ski tele....As an oldie I too have gone wide as in a 109...Can't wait to order some but they MUST be waxable and I still think a hole in the ski for skins will lead to destruction....Been skiing the 215 99's mostly breaking trail because the 30 inches we have here is crusted seriously just three inches down....But those trails are ready for fast but we have not been above zero in four days...Speed....Ha! TM

Also con-mon going to a different set of skis especially wider shaped skis is pretty easy...I'm not in it for the ease of tele because to do the deed well it ain't gonna be easy...The equipment you use is fine and would work well up around here but it begs the question...WHY....Big equipment is for downhill and downhill tele is quite different from skiing in the bush or...er...the woods....Only saying con-mon is that I love skinny and have and still do make them sing in the gonz with moose coyotes and Fischer dancing to the tune...Arc on! With all due respect GT, I don't think you skied heavy equipment enough to voice such strong opinions about it. When I first started skiing plastic boots my opinions were the same as yours. Although I was able to ski faster on more difficult terrain with less crashes it didn't feel as good because my skiing was not as good. I had a hard time getting centered and feeling my edges. It took a few seasons to become as proficient with plastic boots as I was with leather. When I finally did, my turns felt as good as they ever did with leather and I had more control because of the rigidness of the system and nothing is more fun than having complete control.
Mike, as far as the difference in techniques goes I can do all of the same stuff on heavy and light gear, the difference is where I use what technique. For example On heavy gear I might get by with smooth turns on a particular hill but may have to use jump or step turns with light gear because they don't come around as quick. Light gear also takes more thought and concentration then heavy gear. On heavy gear I can turn at will, where on light gear I may have to be planning two or more turns ahead.

That's actually a very good point and remark TM... For the ski breakers out there, this might be an issue... Well, at least for the narrower class of EasySkin skis... And that's a nice plus for the Asnes X-Skin system, which doesn't have any significant "hole" in the ski, but just two very tiny slits... It will be interesting to see the durability of the two systems over time...greatgt wrote:Can't wait to order some but they MUST be waxable and I still think a hole in the ski for skins will lead to destruction....TM

When I get them..heh..I will lend them to anybody who wants to ski them to compare...The way the kid and king launch would destroy the air core with a hole in them....Long time ago Teleking got three replacement e99 first year air cores...I got two and was injured so my third set was the last...5 free sets because they were weak....Think that was what happened to the Rebounds too...The e99's were torqued so hard they split top to bottom right down the center of the ski...That was a huge laugh...TM

My god! Respectably disagreeable discourse on this and that is one thing, that can actually be both fun and educational, but squabbling with personal put-downs is another. There is a line there. This shouldn't be such place for that kind of angst. If anyone on here thinks absolutely that "their" way is the only "it," I got news for you, you will always be pissed off that not everyone aligns with your particular proclivity.
Re: interesting old 3-pin Telemark instructional video
Kinda thought this was a humorous discourse Harris...Sounds like you have the problem...Low angle was skiing on the widest fattest non cambered heavy skis I have yesterday as did all the boys skiing with me...Heh, one even had a snowboard...pretty wide and non cambered....Most of the time I like what I like but in some conditions other kinds of things work better or at least it's much less effort....Serious crust with a total of @ 30 inches...Polar and light green was da ticket....Hit 17 below last night and where I reside 23 below is the record going back to 1980 the year we discovered Telemark....It's cold out there boys...TM
