Who's skiing tomorrow?

Post by MikeK » Sun Jan 15, 2017 4:39 pm

It's looking like locally we're going to make it all of January without snow... :( Guess those Oak trees were wrong.

Wondering what it might be like tomorrow, typically a big ski day but local places are dying. None have been fully opened yet this year and we had a major thaw last week. Supposed to have another this week. No snow in the near forecast. I'm starting to think NY should give up on the ski business ($70 to ski half of an already small area on re-frozen man-made?) .

Who's going to brave the WROD?

It was 10 degrees (F) here this morning. We'll still have about 8 inches on the ground locally (at 1000-1200 ft.) through tomorrow--I may ski on the local paths by the creek and reservoir. It will probably be all trail breaking, however.

The thaw is scheduled for Tuesday.

My part of Alaska is suppose to get another 3" tonight on top of the 5" we got Fri. About 2ft base. Will be out tomorrow on the Epochs.

I wish it were not true, but those oak trees have been correct so far. Only a few leaves hanging on, not much snow or cold weather. The Farmer Almanac called for average temperatures, and above average precipitation. I think temperatures have been above average, but the precipitation has been above average, just rain!

It's been grim, and we've been "lucky" in NH. A little reprieve for us on Tuesday night, it looks like too.

Well- I am changing poopy diapers everyday as well- although my youngest turned 3 on Xmas Eve and she is getting pretty good at the potty!!!! :D :D :D :D :!: :!: :!: :!:

I am still skiing everyday- although the snow conditions have turned into 4+ feet of white, icy concrete over the last few days. We finally got one of those rainstorms at the end of last week- and then it dropped to -24C on the weekend...

The klister and kicker skins are keeping me limping along.

It generally snows everyday here in the hills- we should have enough soft stuff by the end of the week- plus, we might get as much as 15cm on Thursday night.

Wasn't able to watch the videos you posted Mike- my 14-yr-old maxed out our internet for the month  .

The Anchorage Hillside got about 20" over the weekend and the skiing is great on the trails in Chugach state park. We didn't have a 2 foot base though, last weekend there were exposed rocks and the trails were packed so hard that the downhills were no fun and not worth skiing.

I hope people out West are hitting it! Just took a tour of some web pages - Jackson Hole at 100 inch base. Mammoth in CA....256! Squaw Valley.....150" base. it's an epic year out there.
