Ideal living locations

Tell me more... I'm listening...
I suppose a cheap, and delicious dog can be had across the way in Germany.

Here's the actual post--the quote was first and can be deleted by the moderator:
Unless you are looking for big mountains, the Methow valley (Winthrop, etc.) of WA is ideal based on climate (except the snow season might be shorter than some places. If you want bigger mountains, one could go to Wenatchee (WA) or the Okanogan Valley of BC (Penticton, Kelowna, Vernon).
I don't know how warm Bozeman is in the summer, but it's an excellent place for skiing of all types, and a good place to live if you are a computer geek--cheaper than Denver, Seattle or the Silicon Valley.

Anywhere in the Northwest looks pretty ideal. Somewhere close to lots of skiing, climbing, whitewater, flyfishing....
Driggs, Idaho, can't be that bad if 22 Designs is based out of there.
The Olympic Peninsula also looks appealing, if you don't mind lots of rain. (But also lots of snow!)

Re: Ideal living locations
Was just making a list...
Looks like anywhere on the eastern Cascades would be really nice - you get that break between desert and mountains which gives you access to snow and dry for skiing and riding.
Wenatchee and Mission Ridge
The Dalles and Mt Hood
Bend and Mt Bachelor
Klamath Falls and Mt Ashland
Wenatchee and Bend seem to be pretty tops in a lot of respects though. Not to mention the bountiful BC forest lands in the Cascades.
Yakima is along that line, but not so sure about skiing there...

Personally, I'd take the west side for skiing and paddling, but to each their own! I hear their powder days are nice and heavy, so it would at least be familiar coming from Maine.MikeK wrote: Looks like anywhere on the eastern Cascades would be really nice - you get that break between desert and mountains which gives you access to snow and dry for skiing and riding.

Re: Ideal living locations
Wyoming would be my pick, You've got Jackson hole, the Tetons, Wind River Range, Yellowstone and Colorado, Utah and Idaho on the border. Though for my wife, who is from Poland, if she wanted us to live there, I'm ok with that too, Tatra mountains and easy access to other European countries by rail, bus, plane, etc.. However the close proximity to Russia and Poland possibly about to go through a civil war, maybe not..

Just right for the "other hobbies!"MikeK wrote: Yeah - most do, but it rains A LOT!
Re: Ideal living locations
Ohh! That kind of paddling!
I think that guy above is more on a rock than he is in the water though
