Ok, maybe I'm the one who needs the meds.
hahaha... not head meds... I meant my glasses prescription.

But maybe I should look into the other ones as well...

Skis are meant to be used! My Madshus Touring are almost 50 yrs old and I drive them hard! A better fate to be loved and skied, flown through that sweet snow, than mounted on a wall as a curio with a steel bolt through her vibrant birch heart.

The Madshus Birke is apparently the epitome of the wood classic XC ski... I've been looking for a pair in my length in good condition and at a suitable price point for a while now.

Too late.... Operation in progress...!

Gee that 200yo paint is freaking hard to remove...! This is my fourth pass of varnish stripper...

What kind of oil do you guys use, like flax oil, that kind of stuff? What should I use if I want a finish like the Birkebeiners...? I want the wood to look as natural as possible... I mean, I don't want to darken the natural tone for this one... Or maybe something to make them just a bit yellowish like the Heads and the "Nor Spirits"...? I'd prefer to go the oil way rather than use glossy varnish...

I think you want old school boiled linseed oil.

That's funny you guys noticing my binding mount job. This characteristic dates back to the original 3-pin mount. I simply used the same holes for the NNN and the NNN BC binding mounts which followed. The missing heel was a result of my trying it "as is" with the slight resultant heel drop which I found to be a pleasant feeling. But the proof is in the pudding, she skis just fine! However, none of my race ski bindings are mounted askew.
Call it Nordic Freeride

Mmmm... boiling oil. Sounds like something a Knight would do.

Second on boiled linseed oil. A light coat, one every few days, or when the ski is dried from the previous one.

Ha! That looks just like my workbench! Skis and old amps. Is this a quebec thing or a symptom of the free heel disease?

As happy as you are with them, it might be an interesting exercice to de-mount them, find balance point and remount the NNN-BC pin on balance point. If I recall right, when installing on balance point, 75mm and NNN screws positions are not meant to be the same.

Actually, it's not amps... It's my pile of Apple/Mac junk for parts/repairs... But I'm pretty sure Mike's workbench is full of amps in the background too...!

Boiled linseed! That's what I meant by flax oil... Didn't have the right term... I have some...
Swix and Hautaterva stopped making tar pine... I guess I'll go for the horse stuff...

Looking better everyday...
