Asolo 3 pin Binding question

hello everyone, I i have an old pair of skis mounted with Asolo 3 pin bindings. I've heard these referred to as "double bail" bindings because the bail has a metal plate that is screwed onto it. i recently got a new pair of crispi Svartisen boots and while these do fit in the bindings, it is very tight due to the thickness of the duckbills. I hear this is not great for the longevity of the boots. if i take the metal plate off of the bail it is a much better fit but i'm wondering if this will be durable enough to work, let me know what you guys think.

The bindings in question:

the left binding with metal plate and the right without:

The Boot in the binding without the plate, seems to be a good fit:

Wow, Eric, those very fatigued bindings have to be at least 35 years old, possibly dating back even to the early 1980's. Personally, I'd spend the money to replace these ancient pins with a new binding, like a Voile or Rottefella 3 pin, or cable/pin combo. Don't risk boot damage, or worse, by having these very old bindings break at a critical moment.

yeah, they're definitely quite old and so are the skis. probably won't bother replacing them since i only use them two to three times per season. I guess I probably should if I end up skiing them more at some point
