Hi folks,
I was so sad yesterday when my G3 Targa cable on one of my bindings snapped right in the cartridge. Anyone have any luck with repairing or replacing G3 Targa cable? I'm on the lookout for a new/used pair of G3 Targas but also considering a new binding. Can anyone make a recommendation. I'm in central Vermont and it's mostly woods touring with the occasional downhill. I'm on Karhu Guides (185) and in the Garmont Excursions.
thanks,
Luis

Sounds like you like a cable, so Voile 3-pin cable is a solid possibility; also Super Telemark, but be sure the boot's duck bill fits the ST trap (I'm sure somebody here knows).
Sounds like you probably don't need free-pivot (like Voile Switchback).
I'm sure you'll hear from others - I just happened to login before others did!

As was mentioned if the free pivot of the Switchback is not needed, the weight won't be missed. Then you have the Voile Hardwire and the new Rottefella version of that binding their Super Tele Cable binding. As mentioned the Voile binding is designed for the thicker duckbills of plastic boots, does the Rotte binding accommodate them well? Both of these binding have pins, unlike your G3. Are these Voile and Rotte 3 pin bindings as powerful or have the same feel or activity level as the G3 binding or do you have to go with a Switchback or S2? Your welcome for just giving you more questions
There is an older pinless Voile Hardwire binding that a member here, lowfi, loves. It is not made anymore, but if you could get one, the Hardwire and parts etc are available unlike the G3 parts. I only mention this binding because it is maybe closest to the G3 (just a guess). It looks like this

Thanks so much, folks. This is helpful.
Trying to avoid drilling new screw holes in the Guides so will keep a look out for the G3 but if I have no luck I'll certainly consider these options. Just dumped about 10-12 inches of beautiful power in central Vermont and the temps looks great for the next few days. Hoping to get out to enjoy some time in the woods!

The Voile 3pin cables would work well with that set up, use a Voile 10mm riser if you want to re-use the same holes. Another option would be any of the old Black Diamond Riva's, or Rottefella Chili's, again, on 10mm riser.
Any of those will be lighter than the G3's, but parts shouldn't be hard to find for the G3's if you really want to stay with those. As far as the Super Telemark's, I haven't used the newest generation, but the fit is generally pretty maxxed out with a full thickness tele boot sole. Doable though, as I recall.
The Guides are such an easy turning ski, any simple cable will give you more than enough performance with the Excursions.

My bad on saying the parts for the G3 binding were unavailable. I was basing that on a Free Heel Life video where that is what was stated.

I used tele lite dogs with garmont excursions and guides. This is just a three pin binding. For soft conditions I really liked just the pins, but if conditions got harder, I felt the excursions were under powered with just the three pins. The bindings failed and now have with hardwire 3-pin and much more power when the cable is employed. If I was in our boat, I would be voile hardwire or the rotefella with cable and risers.
