The closing part of the toe piece of my 3 pin bindings (Voile cable traverse) are rubbing on the tip of both of my boots (Fischer Transnordic 75) when I do the kick part of the k&g motion. It rubs on the left side (near the big toe) of each boot and it's starting to put a dent in them.
Anyone else had that kind of issue? Any advice?

Yes tonic, you are right, this is a problem. It is such a problem that I waited a month, nobody helped, so I had to join up because you deserve an answer. My Hardwires have rubbed the toe side of my T4's since day one (sbound 112's if it matters) then I broke the sbounds (after 5 years and over 200 days) and remounted the hardwires on Asnes--and the problem followed the binding! And yes, it doesn't matter if you have a plastic or leather boot, the issue is the same, My Asolo Snowfield 2's are also showing the same wear mark. On the T4's the flat spot is almost 1 cm across but isn't through the boot yet. I have used liquid electrical tape to slow the rate of wear but have never been able to stop it.

Also, I think the community should mention how bad the Voile bindings are in the spring, with ice build up under the boot, in the toe piece, on the heel riser--literally everywhere. My Rottefella Cobras have dimpled surfaces, built in anti-ice plates etc. all designed to combat this problem--Voile can't be bothered, you have to come up with your own anti-ice plan. When I bought the Hardwires I searched for problems just like this and found none. These issues are worthy of note and I hope this helps another down the road.

You have to understand members on TT… mostly old guys… believe binding development reached its pinnacle about a hundred years ago. Not much chance of getting them say anything critical about 3 pin, wires. Add in Voile… and you have a perfect storm of bounded thinking.

No sense blaming Voile either… anyone converting $10 in materials + no IP into $150-200 would wake up screaming at the thought of that gravy train ending. LOL.

Light tele gear will not advance until this generation of skiing move on. Give it ~five years for them to complete the escape the back country to the comfort of chair lifts and bar stools. Migration has already started.

If you are talking about the top of the duckbill I wouldn’t worry about it. Post a picture so we can see what you are describing.

I use leather Snowfield 2s with voile 3pin cable bindings and I noticed years ago that the bindings dented the toebox slightly and scuffed the toe leather and also roughed up the duckbill. The scuffs and dents didn't deteriorate or expand any over the years so I just write it off to fit and regular wear and tear. YMMV. Post a photo.

I do notice this as well with Voile bindings. The bail comes in contact with the vertical rubber surface above the duckbill. I have around half a dozen of pairs of these bindings and some seem to be worse than others. They don't all seem to line up exactly the same with the duckbill. I've been thinking of grinding the offending part back a little with a Dremel tool and then painting the exposed metal. A good way to spend some time with my skis this summer, lol

What does giant slalom have to do with this? Don’t think 3 pin is going to work for you there.

It is matter of duckbill and bail... If, for exemple, you use a Voile HD with a Alpina Alaska, and snap the boot in the first notch, there will be too much travel for the duckbill, making dent or rubbings against the side of your boot. Click in the second or third and you will be fine.
